Yeah, saw this last night and it was off the frame, yo!
Even my GF thought it rocked and she was going in hating on it a bit. I guess the film does well in making it BOTH an action film for both sexes as opposed to it just being a "man's film" or something.
I thought the movie would blow it's load with the giant sandstorm until the end but was blown away that it was part of the first major set-piece. The practical effects merged with the CGI flawlessly.
I have been reading some of the "feminist" angle comments and my favorite comment that I read on Twitter about the whole thing was this:
I will be seeing this again at least one more time. Maybe at the Dome or an IMAX screen just for the sound. I should also point out that Mondo will be selling the vinyl score this morning.

The higher ones are mega franchises like Avengers, Hunger Games, Twilight, Dark Knight, Harry Potter, etc.

Most of the top midnight openers are at least $10 million or higher. Some of those include showings prior to midnight. I don't think any of those films were rated R though, so I'd say Max's numbers are pretty solid.

Anyway, that's the main reason why you won't see anything rival Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 anytime soon ($43.5m Thursday Night), the fact Ultron got close to The Dark Knight Rises and the Twilight movies is a small miracle.

There was a couple cool 3D moments other than that i think it hurt the experience a tad for me

Yeah. This film wasn't visually one 3D is right for. MAYBE if Miller shot it in 3D, as intended, the visuals would have fared better. The PC had some moments but it didn't really use the format well.

3D does hurt this film a bit. It makes the practical effects look like CG, and that's not good for anyone.

Walking out of the film was weird for me. I felt numb to the whole thing and was trying to process what I just saw. But after some careful thought and consideration, yes, there needs to be more stars manufactured for this movie.

Per Boxoffice.com:
Meanwhile, Mad Max: Fury Road got off to a strong start all its own. The franchise's first entry in three decades stormed in with $3.7 million last night as it rides a wave of stellar critical reviews and considerable anticipation from genre fans. Comparisons are even more tricky for this flick, but that figure isn't far behind Dawn of the Planet of the Apes' $4.1 million last July, lines up with Pacific Rim's $3.6 million, edges out 300: Rise of an Empire's $3.3 million, and more than doubles Edge of Tomorrow's $1.8 million.

Well it got its third negative, bringing the avg down to 98%, from a guy I want to punch. Not because of his opinion, no, that's fine. It's his fucking rating system. He splits it into 3s (Heart, Brain, Courage/Entertainment) and when it gets submitted to RT he gives them the average, which means Furious 7 has a 1.9528 out of 10, 22 Jump Street has a 3.2 out of 10, Mad Max a 4.9 out of 10, and We Steal Secrets has a 5.751 out of 10.

Saw it in 3D last night and definitely didn't enjoy that aspect - nothing really pops, only dulls the experience and because Miller plays with framerates a lot, it was super jarring. Also darkening the gorgeous cinematography was a crime - so I went back for a second viewing in 2D this afternoon. SO MUCH BETTER. In terms of the flick, loved it - a masterpiece. I may catch shit for saying so but it blows The Road Warrior out of the water IMO.

this was truly a spectacle to see in the theater. the rumbling, the cinematographic glory, the narrative, the action...oh the action. this was an intense ride from start to finish and that it had a bit of heart made this a very enjoyable experience. i want more!

Just got back from seeing this and I found the hype justified. It was Road Warrior on massive amounts of steroids and Theron killed it. Now I just wish I had a projector to simulate the theatrical experience. Home video won't be the same for me.

I haven't read every single review for this, but (As much of a fantasy as this movie is) this movie is prophetic for Californians

The one thing I didn't get was the handling of Max's visions of his kid. You got the sense that Max was responsible for her death, but it wasn't that way in the original at all. And yeah, I know, this is a remake/reboot (Considering that Max's kid was a boy in that film) But even the Toecutter's eyeballs made a split-second appearance in this movie (Did you spot them?)

What was that old rumor mill website from the late 90's that tracked all of the "in development" films? I used to be glued to that site. And now I can't remember what it was called.
Anyways, it's mad (hehe) to think that I was anxious to see this movie fifteen years ago. And now it's out and rocking socks.

Re: Mad Max: Fury Road (Miller, 2015) — The Reviews Thread
After seeing the movie I'm actually kind of surprised the reviews are as high as they are. Not because I didn't like it, but because it doesn't seem like it'd be everybody's cup of tea. There were a lot of times during the movie where I felt like I was watching a perfectly realized live action adaptation of a late 80s anime. However, that guy seems to have missed the artistry in all this, the movie in spots is so beautifully artistic with its visuals that I could never associate with the "milking of a franchise"
