Re: Mad Max: Fury Road (Miller, 2015) The Reviews Thread

What would be the premise for a sequel now that Miller has basically redone Road Warrior? Would audiences accept less action & more character development now that the action bar has been raised so high?

Obviously, there are tons of settings & plots available for more post-nuke scenarios, but would it seem like a letdown after this thrill ride?

And how much $$$ would Fury Road have to make in order for a sequel to be green-lighted? And are Miller & Hardy on board for a sequel?

Quiet? That guy was making a lot of noise. Really good character too. He was a lot of fun.

All of the supporting named on screen characters were. Bullet Farmer, People Eater, Slit, etc.

I REALLY REALLY liked that older guy w/ Furiosa. His voice, his look, the way he moved. Such a crazy cool collection of personalities in this film.

I don't think WB dare go forward w/o Miller.

Who OWNS Mad Max? Is it Miller?

And Hardy is contracted for more films.

It stands to be seen but he said he has a few more stories he'd like to do in this world.

I just want Gibson as a Villain. Spence being back too. Fuck. That idea just gets me so excited. Gibson as a Mad Max baddie. Fuuuuuuuuuck.

Spence & Gibson back would be fun if it's not just cameos. My only concern would be having Mel in some other role being too distracting. But that's probably selling the franchise audience too short...hey, most of us are fanboys who love to see the nods to originals in reboots/remakes/sequels. Wouldn't bother me, & Miller would do it right if Gibson would agree.

Good to see Hardy optioned for sequels. Thought he was great, and he & Theron had good chemistry although they evidently feuded on the set.

Thanks to everybody for the info. More Max...a good thing. Just don't get Tina.

Anybody know anything about the health of Roger Ward (Fifi from the original)? I'd love to see him back (I think he'll be 80 next year). He's done more than 100 films, and he looks great in this 2011 interview:

I think Gibson would only distract the small number of us that know him w/ the Mad Max property. Most people wouldn't have that stigma. I don't get distracted by big name actors in any roles just cuz it's them. I just take them for what they're worth on the screen and go from there.

True, but in a ravaged post-apocalyptic world, where is he getting mascara and makeup ? Some of it just Hollywood attractive, and you have to go with it . He probably keeps them fairly dolled up so that the males with whom he wants them to breed will find the task, ahem, enjoyable. I doubt their feelings are of much consequence, and their physical attributes have likely kept them alive as long as they have been.

Judging by the nasty rape scene in the second film, it's a good bet that in the Mad Max world, sex is at best transactional and at worst something that the most brutal simply take when they want it. The breeders basically have social status because of their sexual capital.

Who's publishing the comic? Does Miller have any input?

Gibson as a villain would be super-awesome. He was by far the best thing about Expendables 3.

DC is doing it under Vertigo. Seems like Miller created the plots but the scripts for them are by the comic guys.

How come she's not called Imperatrix Furiosa?

Also, what exactly is "the Fury Road" supposed to refer to...I think I only heard it mentioned once in the movie.

Probably minerals and such. Terra cotta, etc., kind of like how the native americans used their surroundings to gather up war paints and all sorts of decorative things. Hell, Joe and the War Boys use more baby powder and make-up than all the women put together. I'm sure it's derived from the same source - out there in the Fury Road.

Why would she need to be called an Imperatix? What's the difference of that versus just imperator? Imperator is a latin word, from what I can find it's the closest equivalent to the term commander. Imperator is fine. The -ix type of names, like the one you wanted, just come off hokey. Joe had a way of doing things. It's a big tell to who he is in what he names his people. Very interesting nature to him in the film. A lot could be told about him from he himself but the world he created.

Well, you see, there's this road...and there's a lot of fury that takes place on it....

Disappointed that no love has been shown for a possible return by Roger Ward. I loved Fifi in the original (even if his lines were dubbed).

If he's anywhere near the physical condition he appears to be in that 2011 interview, I could see him returning as Fifi (if not in a different role). Maybe even in some vid that Max discovers or in some other role in a different culture Max drifts into. Evidently still has that big bald head & striking mustache...still cuts an imposing figure). Be nice to see a link with Max's past other than his daymare flashbacks.

It may have already been mentioned, but loved Rictus Erectus's proud announcement to the multitude: "I had a baby bruddah! And he was perfect!"

I was just looking at the Wikipedia entry for Imperator (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Imperator) and it says: "In Latin, the feminine form of imperator is imperatrix, denoting a ruling female."

It's no big deal...maybe they just use the masculine form of titles for both genders.

This movie is downright dangerous. I went to a late showing a few nights ago. When I got on the interstate to head home, I was amped up. I passed an 18-wheeler and seriously had to resist the urge to try to ram it.

Man, what a fun thrill ride. I was smiling ear to ear throughout the entire thing. my only regret was waiting this long to see it, as it was moved to a smaller theater. Would have been even more amazing on a bigger screen.

He said he wanted to ram the vehicle, which is a bit more than passing one. Especially an 18 wheeler.

When I was driving home after the movie, I got nervous from every car that passed me, expecting a man to leap off of it and land on the roof of my car.

One time when my friends and I left a midnight screening of The Expendables, one of them was so excited that he attempted to do some action movie shit and roll over my car. The bastard dented my trunk, but he also hit himself in the balls doing it.
