The Little Prince (2016)
Based on the book
I couldn't find an existing thread about this, and I don't believe a US release date has been announced for this yet, but the English language trailer just came out a couple days ago. The stop motion animation portions look beautiful!

The Little Prince – International Trailer 2 by Orangefr

The story centers on a fearless and curious child prodigy (Mackenzie Foy) who lives with her equally academically talented yet overachieving mother (Rachel McAdams). After moving into a new neighborhood, the girl meets her next door neighbor "The Aviator" (Jeff Bridges), an old yet eccentric and mischievous man. Soon, she discovers the story of The Little Prince, a story of a pilot who crashes in a desert where he meets the titular boy from a distant planet, a story that brings the girl and the Aviator together on an extraordinary adventure.

Well, this was set for release on March 18th, but Paramount has decided to drop it entirely apparently.

Mark Osborne confirmed on Twitter that Paramount is no longer distributing the film and that another distributor will release it in the US later this year.
Sucks I don't speak French as it was playing in Paris when I was there this past fall.

Though Amazon France has some expensive ass shipping, from $8.50 EUR (April 4 - 12) to $22.50 EUR (get it by next Wednesday). It has the English version. Amazon.co.uk carries it through 3rd party sellers, also imported from France.
and unrelated (kind of) but their title for Inside Out seems better fitting to that movie: Vice-Versa
Also, this is showing in Canada. Paramount appears to just be in financial straits after overspending on Zoolander 2's advertising, and neither it nor Whiskey Tango Foxtrot performing well.

Netflix is the US distributor now.

Straight to Video/Streaming is still generally a step lower for movies, though these acquisitions that Netflix has been making (ie: Beast of No Nations, their documentaries) have been exceptions to that.

What a shame that the studio pulled the plug on this at the very last minute. I was very excited to see it.

Netflix's The Little Prince
Just watched this tonight and I have to say it's one of the best animated movies I've watched in ages. Yes I have a special place in my heart for the book, but the movie is so touching and well done it's a must see.
BTW: Did this movie originally have a French release? I have the sense it did. The English cast was great BTW- (Paul Giamati's last role is here).
I can't say enough good things about this movie.

Just watch it on Netflix and damn it had to one of the best animated movie this year. Just a wonderful film and it's a shame it didn't get a chance to go to the theater. I found myself crying almost to the end. Check it out you won't be disappointed.

It's playing at the IFC theater in New York. I plan to see it this week.

Re: The Little Prince (2016)
The parts of the movie that are from the actual book are wonderful. The stop motion is beautiful and the voice actors do a wonderful job of delivering the lines which are often more poetic and parable than they are actual dialog.
The CG framing story was just sort of okay. It's another buy-the-number story of how cold and heartless grown-ups are and how wonderful kooky weirdos are. Way too cliche and overdown, IMHO.
All of the subtle and wonderful ways that the book itself dealt with this same topic are instead drug out in super obvious ways and shoved down the audience's throat over and over again during the course of the movie. It's sort of like they assumed everyone would be too dumb to understand the morals of the book sections and decided to just spell them out for the "dumb" movie goers.
I would absolutely love it if the animators had actually filmed the rest of the book sequences that were not in the movie and included a 30-45 minute short film of the complete book without any of the framing story.
