Aquaman (2018, D: James Wan), S: Momoa -- News and Rumor

I ran a search and didn't see this posted yet. According to Joblo.com it looks like a real Aquaman movie may be happening. Interesting. I wonder if they would even consider casting Adrian Grenier for the lead.

Not necessarily to the extent of say "I see dead people" but when the much-talked about Aquaman pilot premieres on iTunes and becomes the most downloaded video they have, it's safe to say that the bastard stepchild of the Justice League has sneaked his way into mainstream pop culture. As such, there's been rumors floating around that a feature film was in development. More specifically, that James Cameron (who directed the fictional AQUAMAN film on "Entourage") kept telling Mark Wahlberg they should actually get together and do the film. With the increasing popularity of the character, those rumors are inevitable but according to a recent article in the LA Times (Note: requires registration), a feature AQUAMAN is becoming a legitmate possibility, spearheaded, in another bizarre case of life-imitating-art, by uber-agent Ari Emanuel, the person on whom Jeremy Piven's uber-agent character, Ari Gold, character is supposedly based. And while no Warner Bros.' reps would comment, apparently, CHARLIE'S ANGELS director McG is being considered for directorial duties. Read the rest of article over HERE.

I don't think Cameron will direct (also, had to laugh that you're name/screen name is Eric, aka the manager of Vincent Chase.

I'm hoping for Jake Gyllenhaal.

If they get McG, it's going to blow, however, if they get Cameron and Wahlberg or Cameron and Grenier, you bet I'd be there.

I'll skip it. Always thought Aquaman was the lamest 'hero' created. 'Oohhh watch as he talks to a guppy". Lame. Thought he was so lame, Wendy and Marvin in the Superfriends cartoon were cooler than fishboy.

That's right! Brokeback fuckin' Aquaman!

I can't believe they're seriously considering making a Aquaman movie, I always thought that Aquaman was one of the lamest superheroes ever. I mean what kind of special power is talking to fish?!?

I doubt we'll get Cameron and Grenier, but if it happens that way, it had better have a Johnny Drama cameo!

Drama would probably end up playing another "dead body" in the film. Check out his resume.

I think they're shooting too high here. If the pilot is so successful on iTunes, then maybe they should reconsider and add it to the CW spring lineup... but a movie?

A movie about Aquaman would be lame, unless they visually create Atlantis and don't screw it up, that'd be freakin awesome. What movie so far has done an underwater community? Not one!

Aquaman (2018, D: TBD), S: Momoa -- News and Rumor

Alright, did a Google search but hadn't found an official thread, just a speculation one from back in 2006.

Anyway, latest news is James Wan being looked at to direct:
Quote:
James Wan could go from racing on the streets to riding the currents of the ocean blue.

The director, hot off the smash opening of his Furious 7 ($392 million worldwide, but who’s counting?), is the frontrunner to direct Aquaman, Warner Bros.’ water-borne superhero movie centering on the classic DC Entertainment character, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.

Wan has no offer at this stage but he is the studio's choice and some preliminary talks have taken place.

Jason Momoa is already attached to star as the underwater breathing hero and will make his appearance as the character in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. He also is card-carrying member of DC’s premiere superhero team, the Justice League, and will be part of Warners’ two part movies.

Aquaman, the standalone, is being developed on two tracks, with Will Beall and Kurt Johnstad writing separate scripts for the project.

There are several obstacles that any deal will face, the biggest one involving the sequel to Furious 7. That project does not have a director at this stage nor a release date but with a box office that has already crossed $500 million in under week, Universal will look to fill that seat soon.

While some believe that Wan will not return for the eighth installment of the Fast & Furious franchise, Universal does hold his option and could exercise it.

Also, Wan is already in prep for The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist, which is due to shoot this fall. While Aquaman has a release date of July 27, 2018, a movie of this magnitude will take considerable work, and the studio is eager to get started.

Wan would rock it. Then again it would leave little time for him to focus on his genre projects.

I agree, though based on the article, it would seem he's a long shot esp if Universal exercise their option on him for Furious 8.

Would love to see Wan involved. Too bad he couldn't get in with a Marvel property.

It will never be better than the James Cameron version.
