Quentin Tarantino's Favorite Italian Westerns...

This is a list posted on Thompson on Hollywood on Indiewire:

http://blogs.indiewire.com/thompsono...terns-20150326

Here, I'll copy and paste the list. I've bolded the only four I haven't seen, which are also the only ones I've never heard of before:

1. "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly" (Sergio Leone, 1966)

2. "For a Few Dollars More" (Sergio Leone, 1965)

3. "Django" (Sergio Corbucci, 1966)

4. "The Mercenary" (Sergio Corbucci, 1966)

5. "Once Upon a Time in the West" (Sergio Leone, 1968)

6. "A Fistful of Dollars" (Sergio Leone, 1964)

7. "Day of Anger" (Tonino Valerii, 1967)

8. "Death Rides a Horse" (Giulio Petroni, 1967)

9. "Navajo Joe" (Sergio Corbucci,1966)

10. "The Return of Ringo" (Duccio Tessari, 1965)

11. "The Big Gundown" (Sergio Sollima, 1966)

12. "A Pistol for Ringo" (Duccio Tessari, 1965)

13. "The Dirty Outlaws" (Franco Rossetti, 1967)

14. "The Great Silence" (Sergio Corbucci, 1968)

15. "The Grand Duel" (Giancarlo Santi, 1972)

16. "Shoot the Living, Pray for the Dead" (Giuseppe Vari, 1971)

17. "Tepepa" (Giulio Petroni, 1968)

18. "The Ugly Ones" (Eugenio Martin, 1966)

19. "Viva Django!" (Ferdinando Baldi, 1967)

20. "Machine Gun Killers" (Paolo Bianchini, 1968)

I would have included COMPANEROS and maybe one or more of the SABATA films and maybe a SARTANA film. But otherwise it's an okay list, with all the usual suspects. I probably wouldn't have included THE UGLY ONES, which happens to be the very first Italian western I ever saw, back in 1969. I would later that year see ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST, DEATH RIDES A HORSE and THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY.

^I agree about Companeros. The Mercenary is basically the same movie, but Companeros has WAY more entertainment value.

Shoot the living.... wasn't that bad. Saw it on youtube a few years ago (Appears to have been taken down) what I remember most about it is the very mellow opening song.

V Django and Viva Django! are not the same movie, correct? I still haven't seen the latter.

Knowing QT's taste, I'm surprised he didn't throw in some martial-arts-meets-spaghetti-westerns like Stranger & The Gunfighter,Fighting Fists of Shanghai Joe or Silent Stranger.

I also like Companeros better than The Mercenary.

That's not a bad list, although I haven't seen 6 or 7 of those.

I'd probably include:

Run Man, Run
Texas, Adios
Face to Face
A Bullet for the General

and yes......KEOMA!!!

I'm not at all surprised to see The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly at #1.

But I am surprised that Once Upon a Time in the West isn't higher than #5.

I'm surprised that They Call Me Trinity isn't on his list. That movie is still awesome today.

Is it supposed to be in some kind of preferential order? If it is, I would put OUATITW at #1 & The Great Silence would be in the top 5.

The list was originally done for this site during the filming of Inglourious Basterds. It also includes a number o runners up. I guess it's making the rounds due to the new movie.
