Even the boy was CGI. He looked like he was born in the uncanny valley. That movie looked like it was filmed indoors. Utter shit.

Walt Disney’s classic animated tale Dumbo originally opened on October 23, 1941, before going on to win an Oscar for best scoring of a musical picture along with its nomination for best original song for “Baby Mine.” Disney is hoping to recapture the magic of the original in their live-action version of Dumbo, which will use state-of-the-art visual effects to portray the title character and his four-legged friends. The film’s cast, characters, and release date were confirmed during today’s D23 panel, along with the first image; you can find all of that information below.
Dumbo, now under production at Pinewood Studios and Cardington Studios, will be directed by visionary filmmaker Tim Burton. The film stars Golden Globe winner Colin Farrell, Golden Globe winner Michael Keaton, Emmy and Golden Globe winner Danny DeVito, BAFTA Award winner and Golden Globe nominee Eva Green, and introduces Nico Parker and Finley Hobbins in their first film roles. The cast also includes Roshan Seth, DeObia Oparei, Sharon Rooney and Douglas Reith. Look for Dumbo to fly into theaters on March 29, 2019.
Check out the first image from the production below:
Here’s Dumbo‘s official synopsis:
Disney’s new live-action feature film “Dumbo” introduces Holt Farrier (Farrell), a former circus star who finds his life turned upside down when he returns from the war. Circus owner Max Medici (DeVito) enlists Holt to care for a newborn elephant whose oversized ears make him a laughingstock in an already struggling circus. But when Holt’s children (Parker and Hobbins) discover that Dumbo can fly, persuasive entrepreneur V.A. Vandevere (Keaton) and an aerial artist named Colette Marchant (Green) swoop in to make the peculiar pachyderm a star.
Katterli Frauenfelder, Derek Frey, Ehren Kruger and Justin Springer are producing from a screenplay by Kruger. Nigel Gostelow is the executive producer.
The creative team includes cinematographer Ben Davis, BSC, Oscar-winning production designer Rick Heinrichs, four-time Oscar®-winning costume designer Colleen Atwood, editor Chris Lebenzon, ACE and BAFTA Award-winning make-up designer Paul Gooch.

Funny how Tim Burton was fired as an animator when he was quite young, and now he's pretty much going to be a Disney Legend in a few years. Here's a vid of him with John Lasseter filming from the old days:

From Disney and visionary director Tim Burton, “Dumbo” expands on the beloved classic story where differences are celebrated, family is cherished and dreams take flight. A new trailer, images and poster are now available. The trailer features Colin Farrell, Michael Keaton, Danny DeVito, Eva Green, Finley Hobbins and Nico Parker.
Circus owner Max Medici (Danny DeVito) enlists former star Holt Farrier (Colin Farrell) and his children Milly (Nico Parker) and Joe (Finley Hobbins) to care for a newborn elephant whose oversized ears make him a laughingstock in an already struggling circus. But when they discover that Dumbo can fly, the circus makes an incredible comeback, attracting persuasive entrepreneur V.A. Vandevere (Michael Keaton), who recruits the peculiar pachyderm for his newest, larger-than-life entertainment venture, Dreamland. Dumbo soars to new heights alongside a charming and spectacular aerial artist, Colette Marchant (Eva Green), until Holt learns that beneath its shiny veneer, Dreamland is full of dark secrets.

That actually looks pretty decent. I’m glad to see it’s more in the style of Big Fish over something like Edward Scissorhands or Beetlejuice.

What a disgusting, cynical creation. I’m laughing at the shamelessness of the whole thing. It’s just copying a template of one of the finest films ever made and grotesquely embellishing it.
The 1941 Dumbo is a little masterpiece of refined, simple engagement and bold experimentation. This is just loud and garish and dumb.

I’m kind of indifferent to it I guess. The animated movie isn’t one that I remember watching as a kid so I don’t have a lot of attachment to the story. Burton I find very hit or miss as a director. I think the trailer looks okay, but it’s probably not a movie I’ll rush out to see in theaters. Maybe when it airs on a premium channel or streaming service.

Looks to be another winner. Which will then likely translate into even more live action remakes of their animated classics getting the green light.

I had thought that Smashing Pumpkins' version was made for this movie. Was that just a weird coincidence that they just recorded this song a few months ago or did they get replaced by Disney like Lianne Rimes? (Because I'm all about value).

It was just a part of the circus/vaudevillian theme of the last tour. It would've made sense for them for to be used in the film though.

Yeah, it sounds like "Disney-fied" Burton, which can't be a good thing. It also sounds like it doesn't have enough story to fill its bloated run time. I was really looking forward to this one too - I thought Burton was the perfect fit for the material.

Reviews be damned. It's Tim Burton reunited with Batman and Penguin. I'm seeing it.
