Best Directors based on Work in the last Decade ?

Who are the best Directors based on work in the last decade ?

I made the proviso about the last 10 years because i feel there are a few Directors living off very old past glories (e.g. Tarantino)

I don't think you can go past Christopher Nolan. I still rate David Fincher based on his recent work

and for me Jon Favreau

For me, it's mostly the same as for the last 20 years:
Fincher
Coen Bros
Scorsese
Tarantino
PT Anderson

I like Nolan's output, but he has a good bit of growing to do as a director. While Tarantino's output has been more over-the-top revenge flicks, I've liked them all a lot and they've all been well directed.

Steve McQueen

I would add Alfonso Cauron, but I'd like to limit this to directors with more than 2 films in the last decade.

George Lucas for the films he's directed over the 10 year span of 2006-2015.

I would add Duncan Jones to the "2 films or less" list, too.

You're out of your freaking mind. DJANGO and INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS rank with the best of Tarantino's work and, in my book, qualify him as the only American director working today who belongs on such a list.

For foreign directors the list would include Jia Zhangke from China (THE WORLD, A TOUCH OF SIN) and Hirokazu Koreeda from Japan (LIKE FATHER LIKE SON). The one Japanese animator I would put on that list is Mamoru Hosoda (SUMMER WARS, WOLF CHILDREN). I would not include Hayao Miyazaki because the last worthy film of his was SPIRITED AWAY (2001).

I'd say affleck belongs on the list for the fact that he has directed 3 movies, and all three were critic darlings.

I love Django Unchained and all but it has some issues. And not having Sally Menke was probably a big part of it. She really helped Tarantino out in getting his movies to flow so goddamn well.

Wes Anderson has been pretty stellar for awhile now, but keeps perfecting with each new movie...
