#3 The Scout

Strangely they are all sports movies, and I really don't like sports movies.

Draven 10-06-03 09:56 AM

Definitely Bring it On.

It's officially one of my favorite movies.

Thanks OP for the "request."

Like I said in the earlier thread about "our" #1 favorite movie of all time I have to go with Can't Buy Me Love.

But like DonnachaOne said, guilty pleasure is such a "harsh" term for movies that are loved by the viewers/owners of them, but the masses do not necessarily see what we do in them. Heck, I count among my favs a number of movies that have been mentioned above.

Better Off Dead, and anything Godzilla

...and Deputy Dave, except for Shoeless batting righty, Field of Dreams is too great to be a guilty pleasure...

I never liked the term "guilty pleasure". Why should I feel guilty about something I enjoy? Who's saying I can't or shouldn't? Why would their opinion outweigh my own when it come to films I want to watch?

As far as films that I enjoy, despite the majority saying I shouldn't... I don't know, really. One or two gross-out comedies, eighties films featuring not-yet-stars and the odd Sandler film.

I completely agree with what you're saying. To me, liking or disliking a movie has nothing to do with what critics think about it.

However, I my case both Dog Soldiers and Blue Crush actually got pretty good reviews, so what you're saying doesn't really apply. I chose films that I truly enjoy, even though I know that they are flawed and formulaic in some respects. That's what defines a guilty pleaseure to me: I dis other films that have the same flaws, but for some reason, I like these particular ones.

Easy Rider may be a critically acclaimed film, but that's only if you consider it in the context of the time in which it was created. The film's value to the average movie watcher of the 21st century has decreased significantly. It may be on AFI's Top 100 movie list, but so is Singin' In the Rain, The Wizard of Oz, and Fantasia.

Or I'll just change it to C.H.U.D. instead.

Wouldn't that mean you didn't think it had virtues?

Yes, in a cinematic sense.... I just like watching it, but have no idea why.

Easy Rider defined a generation.

No guilt involved.

#1 guilty pleasure...

I actually feel no guilt for all the cheese I love.

But I do find it hard to admit how much I love: Zapped!

I think because it's a penny marshall film. I'd feel a little guilty admitting to liking anything of that hack directors work.

Big admittingly is the best thing she has done, and perhaps will ever do.
