Re: Halloween (2018, D: David Gordon Green) - from Blumhouse & Carpenter - S: Curtis
I just watched the clip of Laurie's death scene in Resurrection. They could easily just say she survived the stabbing and fall. Unless there was an actual mention in the movie that she died? This film can be a "sequel to Halloween 2" but not negate H20 and Resurrection.
I really would like to see Josh Harnett back. He could have his own daughter this time.

Don't we all want to forget Resurrection though? That movie is just bad and should be ignored. This is coming from someone who likes most of the films in the franchise except that one and Zombie's Halloween II.

Starting up 40yrs later after part II is fine by me.
4 and 5 were good on their own.
6 sucked.
Unfortunately having to nix H20 out of the game kinda sucks as it was a good movie on it's own.
8 was just trying to be with the times and he whole reality TV thing and really wasn't all that great.
And part III ..... well .....yeah.

Not a fan of ignoring H20 since i really enjoyed that film. I watch 1,2,H20 every year. That being said, I will see this day one as long as Zombie is nowhere near it.

Honestly H20 is probably my second favorite movie of the whole franchise. Not particularly scary but a ton of fun.

I find Greer oddly attractive! I think she’d be a great choice for Jamie Lee’s daughter. I can see some similarities in their looks.

Yea, she has gotten better looking with age, IMO.

Same (regarding Greer and H20). Happy to see her in anything but removing one of my favorites from the series as canon seems un-needed.

Yeah, I guess I don't really understand the logic behind making H20 non-canon but then from the sounds of it with the new film they're doing something similar.

The other solution would be to explain that Laurie survived the fall in Resurrection. Beyond the opening scene, it really would have no bearing on what they do in this film.

Didn't they already announce that Res is not canon? I guess they could go back on that and use the opening part. Either way, I find it un-needed.

Re: Halloween (2018, D: David Gordon Green) - from Blumhouse & Carpenter - S: Curtis
I wouldn't have any problem with them just retconning Resurrection and then continuing the story from H20 with JLC and Hartnett. I actually think that would've been really interesting since I think most people dug H20. But, like has been mentioned, they would've needed a way to bring back Michael from a pretty conclusive death.

I guess Michael's death is the one thing that makes it hard to continue off of H20. The thing is though with horror films there's always a reason for the killer character to somehow return. Even if this new film is great and caps off the story (because I'm sure Jamie Lee Curtis and John Carpenter likely won't return) that's not to say that a potential future sequel won't screw things up again anyways. It seems to be the nature of films like these. Artistic vision clashes with the studio need to pump out more movies.

John Carpenter just announced that Halloween 2 is also wiped out.
This is now a direct follow up to the original 1978 Halloween.
WTF?

Uh okay that kind of loses me. I get wiping out the films after Halloween II but that film itself is good and easily the best of the sequels that count (Season of the Witch is actually my favorite aside from the original but I consider it to be it's own thing). I'm not sure how I really feel about this. Again like I mentioned fixing continuity is fine until it gets screwed up again.

Now I want to re-watch 2 to see what story elements it has that this film is trying to wipe away.

I admit to not having seen HII in quite a while so maybe I’m forgetting something. Was part II when they reveal the Laurie/Michael relationship? I don’t remember. Maybe Michael Myers will remain a total stranger to Laurie.

That’s kind of what I was thinking. Aside from those few hours in the hospital, why exactly needs to be wiped clean?

I’m not as hardcore of a Halloween fan as many here, but didn’t Carpenter resent having to write HII and never liked it?
