Re: Halloween 3 in the works

The first Zombie isn't bad as a modern horror remake. The sequel is something I imagine can only be enjoyed on mind-altering substances.

Re: Halloween 3 in the works

John Carpenter's Halloween: Evil exists because it just exists. It can't be explained or scrutinized. Even if you move out into the suburbs, where you think you can safely raise a family, evil will still find you. Because evil just fucking is, and it'll pop up anywhere at any time for no reason at all.

Rob Zombie's Halloween: Evil exists because fathers and bullies are mean.

I say let Michael Bay produce or direct a new Halloween film.

Why? Are McG and Brett Ratner unavailable?

I think you owe McG an apology.

His movies, while admittedly stupid as hell, are still nowhere near as detestable as Bay's and Ratner's.

As far as directors go, I hate all three of them. Bay and Ratner do seem like much bigger douchebags on a personal level, however.

Halloween (TBD) - "Recalibrating" the series

From Dread Central:

It’s been forever since last we had some fresh Halloween news to dole out to you lovable loonies, but with patience comes reward! Read on for the latest on the next return of Michael Myers.

According to THR, Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan, the writers behind some of the installments of the hit Saw movies, have been tapped to pen the latest entry of the Halloween horror franchise for Dimension Films.

Malek Akkad, who has been associated with the franchise since the mid-1990s and producing the movies since the 2007 reboot, is producing with Matt Stein. He is the son of Moustapha Akkad, the man who executive produced the original batch of movies.

Rob Zombie directed the reboot and its 2009 follow-up, but no director is attached to the new installment, which has been in development for several years now. Patrick Lussier (My Bloody Valentine) and Todd Famer were at one point working on a Halloween 3D, but since they departed years ago, it’s been quieter than a night in Haddonfield, Illinois.

Sources say it’s not a remake, not a reboot, and not a reimagining. One source said the project is a “recalibration.”

Stay tuned!

******************************************

It definitely can't be worse than the last one. I like most of what these guys have written, as far as new horror goes, and hopefully "recalibration" simply means "we're ignoring virtually all other films and focusing on making a great new entry."

The franchise has been doing that since John Carpenter walked away.

How about in the new Halloween movie Spock gets pulled through a worm hole and when he comes out on the other side it changes everyone's path and Michael Myers grows up to cure hunger and disease and brings about world peace?

It would be like Neo fighting Agent Smith. It would go on for hours with nothing happening.

Either make a sequel (after Resurrection) or just start over, ignoring what RZ did.

So is Rob Zombie's Halloween 2 really that bad? I never saw it, but I thought the first remake he did was just absolute horse shit.

Re: Halloween (TBD) - "Recalibrating" the series

His second attempt was more like "damn, I'm contracted to make a sequel ... 'scribble scribble scribble' ok, here it is"
It was half-assed and it seemed like he didnt really give a shit.

If you thought the first was shit, I don't even know what word to use to describe the second. It was so gigantically worse than pretty much any other movie I've ever seen.

RZ's second Halloween makes H20 look like Citizen Kane

Re: Halloween (TBD) - "Recalibrating" the series

I don't really know much about the writers other than the Saw films. I don't care for that franchise at all so hopefully the new film isn't going to resemble something similar. As long as whatever they're coming up with is better than Zombie's Halloween II I'm interested in seeing it. I sort of wish they would just choose to ignore the two Zombie films and set the film somewhat in line with the original franchise. Not that there's a lot of continuity there but just to fit it in more with the tone of the original franchise I think would be better.

Re: Halloween (TBD) - "Recalibrating" the series

From what I've heard, that's more or less what they're planning to do. I'd imagine it'll be a standalone film that ignores most of the past canon, but sets itself up for future installments.

Re: Halloween (TBD) - "Recalibrating" the series

To me, recalibrating the series sounds like they're either making a sequel to the original series, which would be Halloween 9, or they're going to create some sort of alternate timeline that ignores some or all of the sequels, which I would prefer.
