See, taffer. Not only was Spider-Man there in NY but that was Danny Trejo doing his best Andrew Garfield impersonation.

Spidey is Back, what a boast for both companies, though Disney really did not need it as much as Sony.
-Spidey in the next Cap Movie, Civil War...YES!!!
-Sony Spider-man movie with appearances from Thor, IronMan, Nick Fury (training Spidey)...All a big YES!!!

Re: Spider-Man (Marvel Cinematic Universe reboot) (July 28, 2017)

Aside from the bad taste The Amazing Spider-Man 2 left in some people's mouths is there any real reason why the MCU couldn't just absorb the Amazing Spider-Man series into its own canon? I think I've seen mention about the attack on New York in The Avengers posing a possible problem given no mention of other superheroes in The Amazing Spider-Man, but I dunno if that's really such a huge problem that it couldn't be overcome completely.

I really did like Garfield as Peter Parker/Spider-Man.

Getting around the battle of NY is easy. Just say Parker wasn't bitten by the spider until after the battle.

The ASM movies could easily be absorbed into the MCU canon like that by saying the events of ASM took place after Avengers. The thing is though that nobody wants the ASM movies in the MCU canon because the ASM movies suck ass.

I thought the first one was actually pretty good, but the second one was a huge disaster. I kind of wonder if this deal had happened after the first movie if they'd have just absorbed the movie into the MCU.

The first one completely butchered the characters of Curt Connors and Captain George Stacy.

Re: Spider-Man (Marvel Cinematic Universe reboot) (July 28, 2017)

Disney/Marvel wants to put their own stamp on Spider-Man. They will distance themselves as much as possible from anything seen in the two Sony movies. I would guess their new tone will be much closer to Raimi's first two films, which most people view positively.

I hope Disney doesn't overreact and go in a radically different direction for Spider-Man. The character has worked in various mediums as one of comicdom's most popular characters for decades. There is no need for radical revisionism. What Marvel can influence are better casting decisions for Gwen Stacy and Mary Jane. I don't think we've ever gotten iconic film versions of those characters.

The MCU characters are pretty faithful to their comic counterparts, so I doubt they will radically revise Spider-Man either. (Yes, MCU Nick Fury isn't 616 Fury but he is Ultimate Fury.)

I thought Emma Stone was a good Gwen Stacy. Kristen Dunst however was a horrible Mary Jane. Danny Trejo would make a better Mary Jane than Dunst did. Trejo for MJ!! (And hey remember when Garfield wanted MJ recast as a dude... well there you go...)

Re: Spider-Man (Marvel Cinematic Universe reboot) (July 28, 2017)

Yeah I really liked Emma Stone as Gwen. The real life relationship between her and Andrew Garfield translated well into the on-screen relationship between Peter and Gwen and is one of the best aspects of those two films.

Re: Spider-Man (Marvel Cinematic Universe reboot) (July 28, 2017)

Marvel obviously wants a clean reboot and rightly so

I also don't think Garfield was too bad as Spidey nor did i think the Gwen stacey casting was too bad, for me it's the villians who were bastardised in the Amazing spider duology. I couldn't stand the Green Goblin, Juggernaut, Electro, actually any of the villians

Re: Spider-Man (Marvel Cinematic Universe reboot) (July 28, 2017)

Yeah the villains were terrible. Rhys Ifans was decent enough as Connors but the design of The Lizard sucked. The villains in the second film were pretty bad all around.

Juggernaut? Do you mean Rhino? Juggernaut is an X-Men villain.

Wondering how everyone is going to react when it revealed that Spider-Man is Miles Morale at the climax of Civil War?

Re: Spider-Man (Marvel Cinematic Universe reboot) (July 28, 2017)

Not Miles Morales. There are enough black superheroes in the MCU (Nick Fury, Falcon, War Machine, Black Panther coming soon) but there are no Latinos. So it will be Miguel O'Hara (aka Spider-Man 2099) as the MCU Spider-Man.

Re: Spider-Man (Marvel Cinematic Universe reboot) (July 28, 2017)

Not going to lie. I'll be fucking excited to see an Hispanic Marvel hero.

I dunno... maybe it was cuz I was a little kid during 2099 but I just never jived w/ it in comparison to "present" day world we also had. I say that... but I collected every damn issue from issue 8, I think, to like at the very end when they decided to kill the line. I know they went back to it for a bit but I don't know what they did with it. I really need to read Spider-Man 2099 again.

I'll take Peņa in Ant-Man, he's always good, as that one guy that is friends with that white dude.

Re: Spider-Man (Marvel Cinematic Universe reboot) (July 28, 2017)

I like the whole 2099 series. That sort of defines a lot of my comic book reading from when I was a kid. The X-Men cartoon got me in to comics to begin with and those were the ones that grabbed my interest based off of the art when I would leaf through them at the supermarket. Good stuff.

Re: Spider-Man (Marvel Cinematic Universe reboot) (July 28, 2017)

I dunno. I think its cuz a lot of the people in the Spidey 2099 line were very unlikeable for me as a kid.

I never did find out who Doom 2099 was. Though I thought that was fucking wild. Him as the President. That shocked me when they showed that in an issue in there. I guess I can wikipedia that now.

*goes to wikipedia*

Spider-Man 2099 was pretty good for a futuristic continuity. Have they ever brought it back?
