Most annoying movie trends?

What current movie trends do you find the most annoying?

*Teasers for trailers and posters.
*Splitting one movie, usually the last in a series, into multiple parts.

Haha. No. But that's a hilarious concept.

"Check back on 11/23/14 for the poster that will BLOW YOUR FUCKING MIND"!

Re: Most annoying movie trends?

Well, they do have teasers to reveal a single image from a movie. People went nuts unlocking a picture of the Joker from TDK.

Teaser posters are usually better than the final one sheet these days. Fucking poster art is at its lowest ebb in history.

Teal and Orange.

The state of modern horror films where everything is CGI and the only way anyone tries to scare the audience is with shitty loud stings on the soundtrack.

The viral marketing for The Dark Knight was different, though. Until that point no film had that kind of interaction with the general movie-going public that far in advance. WB hit a goldmine.

Agreed. It's just so incredibly lazy.

No westerns.

No kung fu movies.

The public has already shown that westerns are no longer a profitable genre. As much as I enjoy them, they're a dated genre.

They still do Kung Fu flicks. Depending on what you think of what a Kung Fu flick is. It's a pretty broad naming.

The western deservedly needed to die down. It went crazy in quantity. A genre does that sometimes. Fortunately at times when we get a western...it is one worth having around.

3D. And no, not just upconverts. I dislike 3D in general. And before anyone says that it doesn't affect me, I've mentioned before that it does take away from 2D showings in theaters and can make it more packed finding showtimes. Not to mention a couple cases where the blu-ray releases like Prometheus has special features only with the 3D release.

CGI, shaky cam, and digital instead of film.

Digital color grading. While I really hate teal/orange, I hate almost as much that de-saturated monochrome look that so many blockbuster movies seem to think makes them look 'serious'. One of the things I enjoyed about Guardians of the Galaxy was that it was in full color. Somewhat of a rarity in Hollywood these days.

According to this article, GotG had over 1200 hours labour worth of colour grading to get it to look the way it did.

Reboots, and CALLING them "reboots". They're either remakes, or comebacks. Sequels to movies that never deserved a sequel (Big Momma's House) or series that don't know when to quit (Transformers).

Re: Most annoying movie trends?

Excessive use of slow-motion in everything trailers/teasers/movies etc

Michael Bay ruined slow-motion.

I don't know about the kid bit, but the destruction porn is irritating, overused and boring. A few meaningful moments of danger are far more interesting than watching entire cityscapes being leveled.
