This looks so awesome!

Please tell me that Bill Nighy is also in the movie and not just narrating the trailer.

Re: Minions

I really like the Despicable Me movies, so this looks great. Kind of a cool concept too for the Minions, despite the obvious cash grab. I'll be interested how quickly they end up in NY so there's regular english dialog, opposed to their gibberish.

Re: Minions

Sounded like Geoffrey Rush to me as the narrator.

Looks cool to me. I only saw the first one. Haven't gotten to 2 yet. This one looks cool w/ the concept.

Re: Minions

That looks really cool. I like that they are making this a prequel as opposed to a full out spinoff from the Despicable Me movies taking place in present time. The history of them is pretty unique concept. I'll look forward to seeing this.

Is it wrong that I'm a grown ass man in the throes of an existential life crisis and I'm excited about a movie about yellow people in goggles who speak in toddler gibberish? Because if it is, really, I'm OK with that.

I went on the Minions simulator ride at Universal Orlando last year - I was grinning from ear to ear - even that was blast.

Minions (2015) -- S: Bullock, Hamm, Keaton -- The Reviews Thread

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2293640/

The story of Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment's Minions begins at the dawn of time. Starting as single-celled yellow organisms, Minions evolve through the ages, perpetually serving the most despicable of masters. Continuously unsuccessful at keeping these masters - from T. rex to Napoleon - the Minions find themselves without someone to serve and fall into a deep depression. But one Minion named Kevin has a plan, and he - alongside teen-age rebel Stuart and lovable little Bob - ventures out into the world to find a new evil boss for his brethren to follow. The trio embarks upon a thrilling journey that ultimately leads them to their next potential master, Scarlet Overkill (Academy Award winner Sandra Bullock), the world's first supervillainess ever. They travel from frigid Antarctica to 1960s New York City, ending in modern London, where they must face their biggest challenge to date: saving all of Minionkind...from annihilation. Featuring a sound-track of hit music from the '60s that still permeates our culture today, Minions is produced by Illumination's Chris Meledandri and Janet Healy, and is directed by Pierre Coffin and Kyle Balda. Brian Lynch has written the screenplay for the 3D-C.G. comedy adventure, and Chris Renaud serves as executive producer of the film.

Opens today

Running time is 91 minutes

Loved the 1st 2 Despicable Me movies. I normally don't go out of my way to the theater to see an animated movie, but I like the Minions. I think I will see this movie this weekend.

Re: Minions (2015) -- S: Bullock, Hamm, Keaton -- The Reviews Thread

I saw it this morning. I enjoyed it. It's light fare. No depth and the such but funny. It gets boring when Overkill gets in. The pacing overall has some good speed but then gets into a small luls at times. Doesn't kill the film. Overkill doesn't add anything except motivation for the 3 minions. I passed out during her big fight w/ them only to wake up about 4 minutes before the credits. I was tired. I'd guess it wasn't money wasted though. I really dug Michael Keaton doing the voice for the dad of that family. He REALLY got into that so it was fun for me.

It's alright. The trailers were better. Movie was fun though.

Sounds like it's laughing to me. Those toys have crap speakers. It's a miracle those things even sound like the characters at times.

It's not doing so hot on Rotten Tomatoes, but I'm probably watching this anyway. Most of the things make it sound like Minions are better in smaller doses.

I'd say that. It's just a string of actions for these guys to be cute and funny. Fluff essentially.

Re: Minions (2015) -- S: Bullock, Hamm, Keaton -- The Reviews Thread

My wife loves the minions, so I took her last night. Just about the entire first part of the movie seemed like the trailer - so it felt like a while before it got to parts that hadn't been seen before.

Kids will enjoy it - the minions go from silly action to silly action - so there is enough going on to entertain them. There are some sight gags that will appease the adults .. one that got a smile out of me was a brief
Spoiler:
Abbey Road
moment.

Stay through the credits .. there is an extended after-credits sequence that probably should have been put earlier (since most parents with young kids aren't sticking around through the credits).

My biggest problem is that, while the DM movies had a heart - this just seems to be a 90-minute commercial to keep Minions in your face (so the kids want Happy Meals, toys, etc.). DM1 & 2 had the kids to provide the positive side, and there really wasn't that here.

Also - considering this was a prequel - I don't remember the minions speaking many "human" words (other than banana) in the DM films. Here they speak spanish, say "thank you" - just struck me as strange.

Overall, not a bad film - just missing the heart and soul of the DM films.

Re: Minions (2015) -- S: Bullock, Hamm, Keaton -- The Reviews Thread

^^^ Agree with most of your comments

I saw it Saturday afternoon. It was just alright for me. I think little kids will love it. My niece loves the Minions. But, I thought the characters are better in small doses as opposed to a full 90 minute movie dedicated to them. I laughed a few times, but I also got bored too. Stuart, Kevin and Bob were enjoyable to watch, but as mentioned in here, I think their best bits were shown in the trailer.

Since this is a prequel to Despicable Me, it was kind of cool to see a young Gru in it.

I enjoyed Sandra Bullock as the villain.

The end credits scene isn't anything to get excited about. It's just an extended dance, singing and musical number.

Considering this made a shit load of money this weekend, a Minions 2 is bound to happen. But, I'm not sure how you do it. Do you pick up from here or do you segue to present time and make it more of a Despicable Me 3 and bring Gru and the girls back?
