Wonder Woman (2017, D: Patty Jenkins) S: Gadot, Pine

I see that there are some 70mm showings of WW. Was any of it actually shot in 70mm? I found one obscure reference from like a year ago in some random forum that they shot in 70mm but could not find any confirmation. Wouldn't a 35mm movie shown in 70mm be kinda pointless?

Wow. I'm surprised. You're profile pic resembles him and he too was a big reviewer of media. Haven't seen his posts in a long while tho.
anyway-
I'm hesitant to read your full review as I'd like to know as little as possible going in, and I also don't want to get my expectations too jacked- so apologies if you cover this in it- But I'm curious as to what you thought of her physicality in film. Looking at the extended clips, I keep seeing over and over this girlish/amateur hesitancy in how she moves (when she's running I can sense her flinching in anticipation of where/when charges will go off; highly rehearsed fight scenes where no actual blows seem to connect).
Did that element come across to you at all when you were watching it?

Those concerns are not something that stood out to me as I was watching the film. I really got caught up in all the action scenes, so I may not be seeing what you are seeing. Everything I saw seemed pretty deliberate.

Fair enough.
These things are sticking out to me when watching short clips isolated from the rest of the movie.
Maybe/hopefully when I finally sit down and watch the film start to finish, I'll get caught up in the moment and they will pass by with less notice.
It's high praise comparing the film to the first Reeve Superman, which is still my gold standard. Even discounting for nostalgia bias, it's the film that gets the balance perfect for me in terms of sentiment and spectacle. Batman Begins is a more than worthy effort, but there are a few things that I still can't dislodge from my craw ("He turned off his headlights. where did he go?" "I'm not going to kill you, but I don't have to save you!" among others)

28 to 1 now with the lone dissent coming from the Guardian.
Otherwise, skimming the pull quotes for the other reviewers, puts a big smile on my face
And several of them are echoing Orbi-wan here in comparing it favorably to Donner/Reeve's Superman.

Happy to see amazing reviews
I also hope it helps stop some of the crazy excuses i've seen here like that reviewers don't know how to review comic book movies or have some slant against the DC.

A LOT of people are saying that the interaction between Gal Gadot and Chris Pine with some really sparkling dialogue was one of the highlights of the movie.
About time, too. By going in the opposite direction of the dark and brooding mood of Man of Steel and Batman vs. Supeman: Dawn of Justice, it make the movie a lot more accessible to viewers.
My guess of the first weekend box office revenue take: $150 to $175 million.

Critics Consensus: Thrilling, earnest, and buoyed by Gal Gadot's charismatic performance, Wonder Woman succeeds in spectacular fashion.

Guy and gals, this movie was just top notch, from the action, humor, acting and so on. It's the whole package. Notice in my review (the official thread) I did not even really get into the bits about the big bad, it was just so good and unexpected, at least to me.
The scene where Diana runs into action for the first time in her full Wonder Woman battle gear is show-stopping. The audience I saw it with erupted into cheers and applause.

Wish I could find all those posts from years back with one person after another saying how lame WW is as a character and how NOBODY would want to see a movie of her.
Drove me nuts having to constantly read that nonsense.

not a Marvel fanboy but have enjoyed their movies more than DCU by a large margin. these reviews make me happy. Gadot is Godomned Gadorgeous.

I fully expect the DCEU to be headed by Patty Jenkins and Joss Whedon moving forward. I still think this will have a conservative opening, by super hero standards, but it will do well and is being well received. The only thing working against it are, yet again, terrible TV ads that try to make it look visually cool without offering anything for non-fans to grasp onto.

I do wonder once Whedon makes Batgirl, if he doesn't do a Justice League sequel.
Oh, and RT is now up to 52-2, 7.8/10. I know more rottens will come in (even GOTG2 had 50+ negative reviews), but I'm wondering if this can't get a 90% on there...

Don't count Matt Reeves out, from all I've read, it will be his Batman.

Reviews so far. So happy DCEU *may* be finally getting it "right" for some of these Debbie Downers and naysayers. Maybe the DCEU threads can start being less vitriolic and more fun..

Hah yeah, considering most of the complaints have been that Man of Steel, BvS and Suicide Squad were shitty, them putting out a good, well reviewed movie will in fact help stop it. Seems so easy in retrospect.

Ha! I'll hold my breath for that one. WW will be an outlier to the rest of what we'll be getting. But I am looking forward to WW.

Until we see Justice League and Aquaman continue the strong tradition of incoherent nonsense we got with those previous movies. But if WW is the beginning of a new direction, then finally we can start talking about another fun comic universe.

Justice League, however, is already completed (mostly). Either the same types of tonal changes were already made to that movie during its production, or else it is now too late to make them. And if JL follows the mold of BvS (likely, given Snyder's direction), then WW will become an outlier, and will only serve to remind us of what might have been.

Honestly, seems incredible low and if reaches Warner's low, that's bad, IMO.
“Wonder Woman” is on track to debut with $80 million to $90 million in ticket sales from the United States and Canada, according to people who have reviewed pre-release audience surveys. Warner Bros. is downplaying opening weekend expectations, predicting $65 million to $70 million in sales.

Oh I'm well aware of that irony. Search some of my past comments, I've even said i hope DC can give you guys what you've been crying for so you'll be happy. Well, now you have it, and if DCEU keeps it up yall can shut up and be happy in these threads.
