I saw that, it just read weird that she was "always" your Captain Marvel when she's only been Captain Marvel for 2 years.

I was actually thinking about that. Not that there is an age limit but... you know.... it is far off.

She's 34 now. By the time she starts filming CM she'll be 37. That's not "old" per se but then Jeremy Renner is 43 now. If she was CM, her age shouldn't be a factor. RDJr. was already in his 40s for Stark. I think they're just finding actors that'll work for the character. Unless Sackhoff went the way of Zellweger.... her possible casting should be fine.

This doesn't seem to be the case for Marvel movies at all though.

Chadwick Boseman is 37.
Benedict Cumberbatch, if its true he's Doctor Strange, is 38.
Paul Rudd is 45
As Snake said, Renner is 43.
Ruffalo is 46.
Chris Pratt is 35.

Granted it might be a little different for a female role, but just about all of the leading actors for the recent movies have been around already and are mid 30's and up.

Are we hitting that we don't like actresses who are up in their 30s kind of dilemma? Or we don't like Sackhoff? I just care for an actor to do the job right. I can't say much about her but she'd rock it from what little I've seen of her.

Who's "we?" There's no DVDTalk collective hive mind. If you mean me, I do think there's a tendency for actresses to be cast younger and prettier opposed to men. But as far as the Marvel movies go, I agree with you that they cast by role and age hasn't been a factor historically.

Female leads are cast much differently than male leads in Hollywood.

Don't lump them all together. The MCU is doing good. Pieces of shit like Fantastic Four and the Spider-Man movies don't even compare. People will ignore that shit, but make a good comic movie and people will still love it.
Agree with your points... but for me, it's silly that every character is getting his/her own feature film. This just reminds me of the Call of Duty franchise --- awesome in the beginning and still sells well... but it's clearly running it's course.

Which I mentioned in the post you quoted, but you gave a far more generic statement with "There are good reasons why most of these superhero roles are going to actors in their late 20s" which clearly isn't accurate.

@ Rob V

I know what you mean but with the level of diversity involved... I think that train will last for a while.

So who would you like to see direct?

Doug Liman? Antoine Fuqua? Kathryn Bigelow?

Re: Captain Marvel (7/6/2018) - News, rumors, etc.

I honestly don't know who I'd want to direct what with these new films. The most depressing choice of the directors is Peyton Reed. There have been rumors about McKay possibly directing one too. He has no style with the camera from what I've seen. I just want good stories with good people making them.

Seems like Blunt is aware of the buzz:

It’s funny ‘cause I’m hearing this Captain Marvel thing from a lot of people. I have no official offer, whatsoever. No one’s called. I don’t know where the hell it’s come from, in all honesty. For me, I just think that the part has gotta be awesome. I just want to play great parts, and it’s sometimes hard to find within those big superhero movies. The female parts are not usually great, but recently, they’ve been better. I don’t know. It has to be the right thing.

I really like Blunt, but not sure how she fits the picture of Captain Marvel that I have. Still, at least she's infinitely better then Sackhoff!

Blunt has known about the fan casting since November. I think her brother gave her the heads up on it too. That was neat.

Would be hilarious if all of a sudden we get a male Captain Marvel and people will still be waiting for a good female lead super hero movie.

Oh and, despite knowing zilch about any version of this Captain Marvel (I'm more familiar with the DC counterpart and vaguely recall that the male version of the Marvel character died of cancer), I'd watch this movie if it starred Emily Blunt.

Yeah, she's become one of my favorites. I know nothing about the character but I'd love to see her in the role.

Man, people would be so pissed at Feige. Considering he did say it was going to be Carol Danvers.

I think Sackhoff would be great for it but if Blunt were cast that would a lot more to it as well. Would be interesting to see her in that kind of environment. Would be a shame to see her lose the accent if they kept Danvers as an American. I really dig Blunt's accent.

Yeah. I'm not one to form a casting/character around an actor but if Blunt got it... keep her as a Brit cuz she has an awesome voice. As an actor one of the features that always make me pay attention to her are her eye movements. She's got an interesting thing there. Loved Edge of Tomorrow for sure. Full Metal Bitch, indeed.
