i like the Thor property and have enjoyed the two films, but wonder if this title might put some moviegoers off. i mean this isn't the strongest of Marvel properties and many were already sour from The Dark World, but i do hope with the stellar cast (and hopefully coherent story) that this turns things around for the better...

Sif makes for a better love interest anyway.
In an interview with Empire Podcast, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige said Portman isn’t going to be in Ranarok for a number of reasons—he didn’t reveal every last detail—but mostly said it’s because the movie takes place in space, not Earth.

“There are only a couple of scenes on Earth in this movie; 80 to 90 percent takes place in the cosmos,” Feige explained.
But I also think Portman hated how her character had no real value either. Jesus. I hate her character. Jane Foster was an opportunity to be a much more compelling character but nope... they made generic mainstream movie love interest. I fucking hated the end of Thor 2 when Thor came back. it was like.. really? Fucking hell.

I like Thor but he's easily the weakest of the 3 prime solo Avenger film properties. The best thing to come out of the Thor films is Loki. He's a much more compelling character than Thor is in the MCU. They need to seriously work on those scripts.

-----------

Great cast though. Urban is always a blast. Weird that he's going to play Skurge w/o The Enchantress around. Whatever... I really hope they don't waste Cate Blanchett. Cuz these films like to waste their actors' qualities.

Natalie Portman always gave the impression that she was strictly in these movies for the paycheque. No big loss if she's not back, and I'm sure she doesn't give two shits either.

Well if they ever want to go the Thor route the comics are currently doing, they either need to recast Portman or change the story.

Reports say Marvel is working the Planet Hulk story into the next Thor...

While the specifics are still unclear, it looks like the gladiator games of Planet Hulk will factor into the story with Thor somehow becoming involved with the games.

It's not really Planet Hulk if it's just the gladiator games. The gladiator stuff was actually, while fun, not the big deal of it.

I'm not hopeful they can get enough of the Planet Hulk storyline in there to be satisfying

I'm interested on seeing how the MCU puts Hulk on another planet.

Too bad we have to say goodbye to Darcy. I know alot of people didn't like her or Portman but I loved the dorky humor in the Thor flicks.

Too bad it didn't lead them to be solid films.

They gave Portman the most generic of emotions for Foster. Thor 2 made it worse at the end.

I could see something like Loki kidnaps Banner from Earth and dumps him near Thor, hoping Hulk will smash Thor.

Sort of reminds me of the old Transformers logo.

I guess I should have posted that as a quote ... It was a joke about the 80's look folks have comments on since that post.

/\ I've watched that at least 6 times now and still think it's friggin awesome and hilarious. If Ragnorak can be just a little bit like that then I'll be happy. A Thor and Hulk road trip buddy movie through the cosmos? Sign me up!

I don't think Thor lends well to more than the situational reaction of humor. The Thor films have been the worst of the 3 solo properties that Marvel has been actively on.

Not sure how Marvel has such a hard time w/ that character.

I think it's because Thor is a high fantasy concept that's shoe-horned into a rational/technological universe, or maybe a low fantasy universe. It just doesn't completely gel.

But even then, that doesn't excuse how lame the dark elves were in the second Thor movie.

same could be said about Dr. Strange... interesting to see how that movie does. I think Thor 3 will be a greater BO hit because of Hulk.
