Once I watched the trailer and saw the haircut, it became more obvious. Since he didn't have the usual Thor haircut or the hammer on the poster, I thought it was a different character.

Hela breaks it. It's been shown in both trailers so far.

This looks like the kind of sequel that makes you forget there ever were movies before it.

I like the Japanese title better. Mighty Thor: Battle Royale!

Seems like that scene with Strange is an extended one of the end credits scene.

Two Thor movies and several more appearances in other Marvel movies and people do nothing but complain that Thor is not wearing his helmet.

Thor finally dons a helmet and everyone bitches about Thor's haircut.

Re: Thor: Ragnarok (11/3/2017, D: Waititi) - News, rumors, etc.

Deadline reports tracking shows that it has the potential to crack 100 million on opening weekend, but they note that even at 90 million it would still be a fantastic opening for the third film in a series, and yeah...85-90 million would be nothing to cry about. The critics (including James Gunn, biased as he might be) are starting to weigh in that it is a vibrant, funny, and energetic film...so excited to see this on opening weekend.

Earlier in this thread I remember folks saying that after seeing the teasers/trailer for this film much earlier in the year that it turns out that this film more than any other in the fall was the one they might be most looking forward too, and nothing I have seen has changed my mind that this has the potential to give Justice League a run for its money. Even if JL ultimately makes more money, it will not completely crush Thor (and Hulk) under its boot heels.

Re: Thor: Ragnarok (11/3/2017, D: Waititi) - News, rumors, etc.

What other movies are 3rd in a series, and the best one in the series?
Azkaban comes to minds as being the best Potter, but I can't recall another.

At the time... M:I 3 gave the first a run for its money, IMO.

Bourne Ultimatum. Toy Story 3. Return of the King.

Does it have to be the best overall, or just better than the first 2?

The James Bond series went Dr. No, From Russia with Love, Goldfinger, Thunderball. Goldfinger may be the best of those 4, but From Russia with Love and Thunderball are pretty highly considered as well.

I actually like Christmas Vacation the best of the first 3 National Lampoon Vacation films.

The Bourne Ultimatum was the best reviewed of that series:

I feel like there's some close calls, like Die Hard, Toy Story, and Evil Dead where the 3rd may be considered the best, but it's a close call.

See, I feel that The Two Towers may be the strongest of the LOTR films, but it's certainly a close call. It's not the same as how Empire Strikes Back is far better than Return of the Jedi.

Re: Thor: Ragnarok (11/3/2017, D: Waititi) - News, rumors, etc.

Variety:

(Highlights)

Quote:
Disney and Marvel Studios hope to loot another half-billion dollars or so from the world’s wallets with this outlandish amuse bouche featuring the God of Thunder and his Abs of Steel, with yet another confusing plot crudely bastardized from Norse mythology in which most of the action takes place on a parallel world you care nothing about.
Quote:
Like Thor’s two previous solo outings, this one is pretty much skippable, although it’s not without its pleasures — most notably, the fact that Thor’s not so solo this time around, with cameos/co-starring opportunities for the Hulk, Doctor Strange and a few leftover bits of Tony Stark’s wardrobe (including a retro Duran Duran T-shirt that’s good for a laugh). And while it’s not saying much, “Thor: Ragnarok” is easily the best of the three Thor movies — or maybe I just think so because its screenwriters and I finally seem to agree on one thing: The Thor movies are preposterous.
Quote:
Frankly, as heroes go, Thor is a big yawn: a virtually invincible guy with a hammer, built like a linebacker and woodenly played by the otherwise charismatic Chris Hemsworth (so great in “Rush” and last year’s “Ghostbusters”).
Spoiler:

Quote:
Goldblum is actually the best thing about the movie, since he openly mocks the film’s underlying silliness — a pursuit in which he is ably assisted by Tessa Thompson, who plays a sarcastic, Han Solo-like renegade who first captures Thor, then later helps him to escape through the “Devil’s Anus.”
