I'm a little surprised Emma Stone is doing this. Her career seems to have moved beyond doing a ten year old sequel to a modest hit.

Yeah, but how big of a paycheck is this movie. I doubt it's that much of a budget. I get why Woody is doing this; it's what he does. Eisenberg and Breslin probably don't have much to pick from. Stone most likely has her pick of pretty much any movie she wants to do right now. If there going to make this then I'm glad she's in it, but I still find it curious.

I’m guessing the main four got a good backend deal. La La Land’s budget was $30mil and she made like over $20mil from that.

Not sure why it would be unheard of for an established actress to come back for a sequel. The original film was well received and had a good cast and people have wanted another for a while. It isn’t like it’s an uncommon thing for actors or actresses to return despite other successes.

I’m in the minority who didn’t really care for Murray’s cameo in the first one. It just went on too long and whatever clever humor there was at the beginning of his cameo was gone by the time it dragged itself to the end.
I’m not terribly excited for another Murray (and Aykroyd) cameo but as long as it doesn’t overstay it’s welcome (like the first) I’ll give it a shot.

That was my first thought. If Stone enjoyed her time making the first movie, obviously works well with the director, and had availability in her schedule, why not make the sequel?
The vast majority of actors have to realize they have a shelf life (especially women), might as well make as many good movies as you can while you can. I’m not saying Emma Stone is anywhere near the end of career. Just sayin’.

Thomas Middleditch Joins ‘Zombieland’ Sequel (EXCLUSIVE)
By JUSTIN KROLL
Thomas Middleditch is joining Sony Pictures’ upcoming “Zombieland” sequel.
The “Silicon Valley” actor will star alongside Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, and Abigail Breslin in “Zombieland 2.” As previously reported, Zoey Deutch and Rosario Dawson are also boarding the cast.
“Zombieland 2” will be set in a world in which zombie slayers must face off against many new kinds of zombies that have evolved since the first movie, as well as some new human survivors.
Original “Zombieland” filmmaker Ruben Fleischer, who most recently helmed Sony’s “Venom,” is returning to direct the followup. He is re-teaming with original writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, known for their work on both “Deadpool” movies. The sequel began production in January and will be released this October, on the 10th anniversary of the first film.
The original “Zombieland” movie opened in 2009 and earned $75 million at the domestic box office on a budget under $25 million.
Gavin Polone returned as producer, while Reese and Wernick will also executive produce.Lauren Abrahams will oversee the project for the studio.
Middleditch will next be seen in “Godzilla: King of the Monsters” and stars on HBO’s “Silicon Valley,” for which he received a 2016 Emmy nomination.
He is represented by WME, Kirsten Ames Management and Isaac Dunham at Schreck Rose Dapello Adams Berlin & Dunham.

Any word on when the sequel will be released? I'm guessing October for Halloween.

I'm in that group too. As much as I love Bill Murrary, his cameo went on way too long and after a while, just brought the movie to a screeching halt. The movie didn't get going again until after he was gone. If they only cut his cameo to half the length - about as long as a cameo should ever get - it would've been so much better.

at Middleditch.
A decade after Zombieland became a hit film and a cult classic, the lead cast (Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Abigail Breslin, and Emma Stone) have reunited with director Ruben Fleischer (Venom) and the original writers Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick (Deadpool) for Zombieland 2: Double Tap. In the sequel, written by Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick and Dave Callaham, through comic mayhem that stretches from the White House and through the heartland, these four slayers must face off against the many new kinds of zombies that have evolved since the first movie, as well as some new human survivors. But most of all, they have to face the growing pains of their own snarky, makeshift family.
