My movie buddy told me yesterday that this came out next week. I seriously though it was coming in November for some reason.

Also...It's $70 million? I'm always surprised how slick he makes all his films look. I know this story didn't need $100 + million for a budget but looking at all his films..that guy really really really knows how to squeeze every penny out of what he has.

I was amazed Zodiac cost $63 million. Benjamin Button was at $150 million, also his highest budgeted flick, and I could see that budget on the screen for sure. The others though I'm amazed at what he gets and how well he uses it.

Hopefully this is as well done as Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. Not really a fan of his other films but loved that one. Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross' soundtrack is up on NPR to stream and is amazing.

Edit: I just realized this was a reviews thread but since I said the soundtrack was amazing I kind of followed the rules.

If they ever put the ST on Amazon for a really low discount like they did with Social Network, someone please PM me. Thanks!

As a fan of all things Fincher (other than Dragon Tattoo, really didn't like his version very much), I'm really curious to see how this turns out.

While it might do well critically and with fans of Fincher, I could see this doing similar to GWTDT stateside. The book might be popular, but there's a lot of competition with the horror movies this month.

Re: Gone Girl (Fincher, 2014) — The Reviews Thread

GWTDT made $100m US, I think that'd be a success for this.

I for one really hate these "Review Threads" that Old boy seems intent on starting with every big or medium sized release. We've had months of discussion about this film, one I am really looking forward to seeing on Friday and now we have to move that discussion here for some reason and have two separate threads to discuss the same movie? Why exactly?

I like the separate, non-spoiler tag needed review thread.

i thought 5 pages of pre-release discussion was enough to warrant a "Review Thread". i don't usually make them for 2-3 page discussions, but this one seems poised to be discussed beyond release day. sorry to spoil your fun Decker.

The novel was fantastic - I even liked the ending, which I hope they keep for the movie.

Without giving anything away, the book's ending is open-ended and ambiguous - meaning it only ticks those off who like things wrapped up in a bow (which I don't).

I'm currently going through a divorce, so GONE GIRL is my "feel good movie of the year." ;)

Eh, I'll get over it....someday. ;)

Honestly, I hadn't really thought of the spoiler-tag-free angle. I guess there is some benefit in that, though somehow we manage in the Video Game forum using tags. So here I can post things like
Spoiler:
Amy's not really dead
without using Spoilers? Okay, I guess.
Sorry to call you out Old Boy. It wasn't personal. I just felt like a good, long pre-release conversation got truncated.
In any case, I'm so psyched for this movie. It's such a fun book and the casting seems like a total home run.

I recall some debate in the video game forum about it too actually. Some folks were adamant that spoiler tags shouldn't be necessary and that people should just stop reading posts after a game is released if they don't want to be spoiled.

Gone Girl is getting a video game? If it's done like LA Noire it could be pretty good.

Saw it tonight and loved it. Fincher knocked it out of the park again. I haven't read the book yet and I was riveted the whole time. The entire cast turned in very good to great performances. Including Tyler (help me God) Perry. Just shows you how great a director Fincher is. I was especially impressed by the actresses who played Ben's sister and the lead female detective. This is definitely one of 2014's best IMO.

I guess word is getting around (at least thru various articles in my Facebook feed) of Ben's full frontal nude scene in the movie....

Why is that ever necessary :(

That said, I love the internet's instant hard-on for all things Fincher: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2267998/

Already a 9.1

Well he has a very good to great track record. I never understood why people get annoyed by this unless it was just some outrageous out of nowhere rating.

David Fincher is my favorite director, so I expect greatness from all his releases regardless.

I believe that's Carrie Coon from THE LEFTOVERS, right? She's hot (to a middle aged guy like me, at least!).

Slightly off-topic, but did anyone read the Fincher interview in the new PLAYBOY? He seems to dislike THE GAME more than anything else on his resume, which kind of surprises me, since I think it's a really good flick.

Maybe because the movie has already received over 1300 ratings and it hasn't even been released yet? I couldn't care less, but one does have to wonder why anyone would ever rate a movie they haven't seen yet.

It's a quick side shot as he's getting in the shower. But he could rival Michael Fassbender.
