Is this the time interval 30 years to remake things? It seems the 90s-00s had a fascination with the 70s (tarantino, but like Starsky and hutch remake)

If the 80s are ridiculed for being popcorn, it is interesting they are being remade these days. Maybe because people were taking chances with crazy ideas. Is this remake of the 80s era the writing on the wall? Ghostbusters 3, Highlander, Escape from New York to come.
A-Team, Predators, Miami Vice, and i'm sure a bunch of others that escape me now have been done starting 2010.

Personally i am pleased to see a neorevisionism of the 80s in our time. Although to put a monkey in the wrench of this topic Miami Vice was done last decade shit.

I THINK what you're asking is if we're seeing all these 80s reboots beacuse it's been 30 years? I think it's more likely because a lot of good movies/original movies came out in the 80s, and Hollywood loves re-making stuff they don't have to build a new brand for.

We've had 80s remakes for some time now, we've moved onto late 80s/early 90s remakes: Robocop, Total Recall, Jurassic Park, TMNT (I realize that's a comic property). Eventually we'll get remakes of the Matrix and LoTR (and I'm a little surprised they didn't do stuff like GhostBusters or Back to the Future yet)

When reading that thread on the Saved By the Bell special, I thought to myself that we're lucky the whole old sitcom to movie fad kind of died out, or we'd get movie remakes of Growing Pains, SBTB, Who's the Boss, etc.

I posit this theory: who were once the target market for the Hollywood blockbuster? Teenage boys. They were the golden goose of Hollywood, packing cinemas see action films and sci-fi FX movies and making it the most lucrative market in the world. Where are all of them now? Glued to their X-Boxes. Why watch an action film when you can do it yourself? So nostalgia is now being banked upon to get everyone back into seats. I'm just worried the 90s nostalgia will be next. I had to live through those, they were bad enough once.

We would have had remakes of Akira and The Killer, but those didn't get past development Hell.

I think that's already starting, with TMNT, the proposed remake of The Bodyguard, and sequels to Father of the Bride and Mrs. Doubtfire (obviously the last one won't happen now).

If I could remake one thing about the 80's, it would have been taking the hint when Mary Jo told me her parents weren't home and that it was a good time for me to come over and "study".
