Transformers: The Last Knight (2017, Bay) - News, rumors, etc.
Michael Bay may not direct the next 'Transformers' Director Michael Bay may finally be ready to step away from his explosive (and explosively successful) Transformers franchise. In an interview with USA Today, Bay tells the paper that he believes he will hand the franchise off to another director for future installments. It's not a done deal just yet, but Bay says that he has other movies that he'd like to tackle. "There's kind of a new chapter, a new direction in movies I want to make," Bay says. "I have a lot of stories to tell. And it's about flexing new muscles." He's reportedly working on a TV project and is interested in making a documentary on elephant poaching. It's worth keeping in mind that Bay has considered leaving the Transformers series in the past — particularly before making this year's fourth entry. That's both a sign that he could once again be swayed into returning, and a sign that he's seemingly continued to lose interest. The Transformers series has basically been Bay's career since 2007, and only last year did he step away briefly to direct another feature, the somewhat quieter Pain & Gain. He's also worked quite a bit as a producer lately, quite distinctively so on last weekend's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. A fifth Transformers film has already been announced, and it's likely that it'll happen with or without Bay. Despite their repeatedly awful critical reception, they've been huge hits with moviegoers — and that's meant big returns for Paramount. Bay is undoubtedly a part of that, and it's hard to imagine a Transformers movie without his influence. The summer would certainly look different with Bay on others projects, but given his history with action movies, that might not be such a bad thing. |

I have a lot of stories to tell. |
Re: Michael Bay may not direct the next 'Transformers'
Yeah, I saw half of Pain & Gain, he has no more stories to tell.

Re: Michael Bay may not direct the next 'Transformers'
He'll probably pick another music video vet from his Platinum Dunes stable.

Re: Michael Bay may not direct the next 'Transformers'
Maybe he wants to focus on another franchise. Get more butthurt fans!
|
Re: Michael Bay may not direct the next 'Transformers'
I think he said that for the second one too. and the third. and the fourth.
And I'm a Michael Bay fan. My favorite movie is The Rock. |

"it's hard to imagine a Transformers movie without his influence."
Yeah, it's hard to imagine a version of Transformers without Michael Bay. If only we had been given ANY other version ANYWHERE of a Transformers without Michael Bay. Such a shame that this series originated with the first film and has never appeared in another form ever. |

Re: Michael Bay may not direct the next 'Transformers'
Or he saw that the last movie made less money then previous entries and can see further diminishing returns from here, so it was safe to bail now.

Re: Michael Bay may not direct the next 'Transformers'
He could pass Transformers 5 on to his pal Jonathan Liebesman, but it's hard to imagine Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles without Liebesman's influence.

They should reboot the franchise with Guillermo Del Toro at the helm. Or, should he turn it down, give it to The Wachowskis (I'm thinking SPEED RACER meets CLOUD ATLAS).

I loved Pain and Gain and don't care what the internet says so I'd be down. The Transformers films were making life as a Michael Bay apologist mighty hard.

Re: Michael Bay may not direct the next 'Transformers'
Does the world even NEED another Transformers movie?
|
Re: Michael Bay may not direct the next 'Transformers'
Does the world need any movies at all?

I'm still not getting this, didn't it make over a billion? I'm sure that if Paramount backs a big enough truck of money up to his house, he'll be on board for another.
I'm going to cry now. |
Re: Michael Bay may not direct the next 'Transformers'
I would see a new STAR WARS movie only if Michael Bay directs it.
|
Re: Michael Bay may not direct the next 'Transformers'
He says this after every movie. Then Paramount/Hasbro cut him a big check, and he signs on again.

Re: Michael Bay may not direct the next 'Transformers'
I can't believe anyone can still be but hurt over the prequel trilogy. Have any of you actually sat down and rewatched it lately? I'm telling you it got much better over time. EP 3 is at least as good as EP 4 now. And, EP 1 is nearly as good as ROTJ.
However, this is about Michael Bay stepping away from TF. :( |
Re: Michael Bay may not direct the next 'Transformers'
Haha that one actually made me laugh, I fell asleep during Episode 2 and 3 the first time around. ROTJ is terrible so I do agree with that statement.
I like Michael Bay movies, they're dumb but occasionally fun. Transformers 2 - 4 have been dumb without the fun. |
Re: Michael Bay may not direct the next 'Transformers'
Anyone opposed to renaming this thread to be the Transformer 5 - rumors and news thread?
|
Re: Michael Bay may not direct the next 'Transformers'
Ugh. How the hell is Dan30ooly not banned yet? I really need to read the rules on trolls in this place.

Re: Michael Bay may not direct the next 'Transformers'
I think only Trollhunter style trolls get banned. This is more Troll 2 quality.

Re: Michael Bay may not direct the next 'Transformers'
Cool. I want to know what else he's going to do. I miss the police and military escapism stuff.
He's going to be "Oscar Winner Michael Bay" soon. |
