Look at the top left of the "D" and look at the ends of the "C". They added serifs in the 2016 logo. The 1972 logo is sans serifs.

Aren't we talking about the new logo (which looks very similar to 1976 logo)?

My comment was in response to someone calling the current/2016 logo lazy. I mentioned that it was simply a riff on the 1972 logo. When asked what was different between the two, I pointed out one of the differences.

Oh, here is James Gunn's presentation of the studio logo. Stay 'til the end to see it animated.

I gotta say, even if I'm not a fan of all of Gunn's output, his genuine enthusiasm never fails to generate some excitement in me.

The logo was the DC Bullet for most of my comic reading years, although I do remember the 1974 logo on a lot of my comics during my early years. So that nostalgia along with it being the coolest and most striking of the logos, makes me give this decision a big thumbs up! :up:

At least for a while, I'm sure it will. Just as I'm sure a few mainline books will also take inspiration from the live action interpretations of several of the characters. Marvel and DC do stuff like that all the time as a form of cross promotion.

With a big-budget Joker movie just weeks away and a Penguin HBO series freshly unveiled, a few other DC villain are being targeted for the spotlight.

Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that Bane, the super-steroid injecting antagonist who was previously seen in the 2012 Christopher Nolan movie The Dark Knight Rises, and Deathstroke, another popular arch-nemesis in the comic book company’s fold, are being lassoed together and for a movie. The James Gunn and Peter Safran-led DC Studios is developing a script from Matthew Orton, a scribe on the upcoming Captain America: Brave New World movie.

There is no director on the project.

Bane is a relatively recent addition to Batman’s rogues gallery, with writer Chuck Dixon and artist Graham Nolan creating him in the early 1990s. The character was born and raised in a prison on a fictional Caribbean isle, a locale that allowed him to not only hone his brute fighting skills but also absorb the teachings from all manner of international criminals. He later was the subject of a horrific steroidal test, an experiment that left him incredibly strong but also addicted to its serums.

The character made his mark in an epic storyline titled “Knightfall,” in which he brutally broke Batman’s back, a story that catapulted him to the upper rankings of Bat-villains. The character has appeared in numerous video games and TV series, and was notably portrayed by a muffled Tom Hardy in the final installment of Nolan’s Batman trilogy, The Dark Knight Rises.

Deathstroke was first introduced in 1980 to be a top-tier villain for the Teen Titans, but the super-enhanced master assassin grew to become one of DC’s most popular bad guys, squaring off against Batman and the Justice League, and headlining his own comic title several times.

The character, created by writer Marv Wolfman and artist George Perez, has popped up in video games and animated fare; Esai Morales played the character in the recent live-action Titans series, while Joe Manganiello cameoed as the one-eyed killer in some of Zack Snyder’s DC movies. At one point, he was going to be the villain of The Batman, back when Ben Affleck was directing and starring. At another point, he was attached to star in a Deathstroke movie from The Raid director Gareth Evans.

DC and Warner Bros. have found considerable success in highlighting villains on the feature side. The most prominent of examples is Joker, with filmmaker Todd Phillips’ unique take on the Clown Prince of Crime propelling the movie to a $1 billion box office and Oscar gold for actor Joaquin Phoenix and composer Hildur Guðnadóttir. The sequel, Joker: Folie a Deux, premiered at the Venice Film Festival and opens Oct. 4.

Colin Farrell is starring The Penguin, a spinoff from Matt Reeves’ 2022 film The Batman. The eight-episode series has garnered strong reviews as it debuted Sept. 19 on HBO.

That feels like a random pairing. I’d rather those characters just be used as villains in a Batman (or Teen Titans for Deathstroke) movie.

It'll be a buddy action-comedy, starring Dwayne Johnson (Bane) and Jason Statham (Deathstroke). Featuring an uncredited Ryan Reynolds (Ambush Bug) and an extended cameo by Kevin Heart (Bat-Mite).

Seems like Warners is really pushing Deathstroke hard. He was in the credit scene in Justice League, was supposed to be the main villain in the aborted Batfleck movie, and showed up again in the Justice League Snyder cut.

I guess someone heard that Rob Liefeld based Deadpool on him. :lol:

In all fairness, Deathstroke has always been popular. Sure, he never blew up the way Deadpool has, but he's always been a well regarded antagonist. And not just in comics. He's been a highlight of animation (Teen Titans), live action (Arrow), and even video games (Batman: Arkham Origins). So I can see WB trying to grow him as a brand of sorts.

To me Deathstroke is just okay as a character but he has a cool look. Not bad but not a favorite of mine either necessarily.

It seemed like sometime around 1990 DC Comics really tried to make Deathstroke into their own version of The Punisher, similar to how they tried push Lobo into being their Wolverine analog.

DC Studios just dropped a new Comic Books and Comic book movie themed podcast today on Max and YouTube. it will drop once per week

I remember DC tried something similar with DC Daily on DC Universe and that completely fizzled out and died completely during the pandemic. They tried to do it 5 days a week and there simply wasn't enough content.

Once per week sounds more tolerable.

I stumbled on this video today. I think this finally settles that under Gunn's stewardship the DCU wont be bogged down in canon or a homogenized look/tone. :up:

Except that every other interview I read he's going on about what's canon and what's not. This scene from Peacemaker isn't canon but the rest of this particular episode is. Blue Beetle the character/actor from the DCEU is canon but his origin/ the movie isn't. Nothing before Superman is canon except for Creature Commandos and these 3 key things. Peacemaker season 1 (DCEU) isn't canon but season 2 (DCU) is*.

Sounds like he's full of shit. :lol:

*I absolutely made some of these up because it is hard to keep track of everything he's said in the past.

It'd be awesome as a period piece. Make him a Gotham City actor at the end of the silent film era who struggles to transition to "talkies," and so ends up undergoing his transformation as part of some low-budget horror film. A full-on monster film that ends by suggesting he will take on knew identies as the years pass and then perhaps even shows him in modern Gotham in the final scene.

Yup I remember how everyone here was screaming that DC Universe sucks and there wasn't enough content to justify paying for it even though all this original new shows were dropping.

and I guess nobody watched DC Daily.

I love watching shows then listening to Podcasts that review and breakdown the eps. This is why I LOVE that MAX often has "Official Podcasts" for most of their original shows.
