That universe consists of what the two Conjuring films and the two Annabelle films? So basically one good movie and three fairly forgettable ones.

Couldn’t have given Geoff Johns more control (despite me not being a huge fan of the guy) or have brought in someone else from the comics universe.

I guess I'm still a little shocked that it's going to be more than a year between when Justice League was released and when Aquaman releases. And then they are hoping for Shazam (and maybe Wonder Woman?) for 2019? I wouldn't think they would do too much planning with a Justice League follow up until they figure out what to do with Affleck and Batman.

Maybe Roland Emmerich will step in and make a great disaster film involving the DCEU characters. Couldn’t be more disastrous than what they’ve been churning out so far.

I'm good with this as this probably lends more toward the $60-80M budget ranges and getting movies like Deathstroke, Nightwing, Batgirl, Harley Quinn/Joker and/or Gotham City Sirens and they'll still do the occasional larger budget flicks (The Batman, Wonder Woman 2, Aquaman sequels).

I swear for somebody who hates just about everything in the DCEU, you post in these threads a lot.

It was a joke but seriously am I wrong? The DCEU isn’t in the best standings at the moment. I can be called a hater all people like but the people have spoken and it seems most don’t give two shits about these films. It’s horrible that Justice League flopped as hard as it has. That speaks volumes as to how these films aren’t resonating.

I want good films from DC but it’s been one disaster after another from day one. You can try and paint a different picture all you’d like but for the most part these films aren’t working and that’s not a minority opinion. Public forum and I’m not personally attacking anyone so I’m not doing anything wrong other than giving an opinion you don’t like.

Looking back at the first post, it looks like they were intending to release movies in March and July of 2018 way back when. I don't remember which movies were which after the delays; Flash and Aquaman getting pushed? Or was The Batman slated for this year originally?

That's what I thought was odd, I could have sworn that they announced Aquaman originally as a Spring or Summer release, because I thought they had something scheduled for Winter. But now Aquaman is Winter and I guess Shazam might hit Spring or Summer for 2019? But then what? You would think if there was another release for sure coming out sometime next year, we would of heard or seen something from it by now.

I’m pretty sure The Batman was tentatively scheduled for 2018 at one point.

Wasn't Shazam also it's own thing and outside of the DCEU? Or maybe i'm imagining that...

Who the fuck knows. One day something is happening the next plans have changed. I do seem to recall rumblings that Shazam and Black Adam would be separate at one point though.

I don't think it's that bad. I just recall Shazam always being outside of the DCEU.

I don’t think anyone knows what’s happening from one film to the next over there. It’s a wait and see game to see if the next thing they release is another flop and whatever is tentatively planned gets canned or a surprise hit like Wonder Woman that they can milk.

On the surface that may sound smart but it’s doing absolutely nothing for the world building of the DCEU. All because the proper time wasn’t taken to do things right from the get go. Now they’re basically stuck in this awkward rut.

Yeah, i'm aware of your feelings on what's going on over there.

I was just commenting only about Shazam since I recall that ALWAYS being separate and therefore unaffected by all the other changes going on.

From the start they announced that Shazam was separate and was even being released under the New Line banner, but I've heard conflicting things after that, such as Black Adam being featured in Suicide Squad 2.

I don’t know why they’d want that separated anyways. If anything a character like Shazam would probably benefit more from being part of a larger film universe. It’s not like he’s really a super known character or really popular.

Bored and looked it up (although it was probably somewhere in this thread too). Here's what the slate was back in 2014.

https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/he...s-10-dc-741008

Those 10 DC movies named are:

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice directed by Zack Snyder (2016)
Suicide Squad directed by David Ayer (2016)
Wonder Woman starring Gal Gadot (2017)
Justice League Part One directed by Snyder, with Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill and Amy Adams reprising their roles (2017)
The Flash starring Ezra Miller (2018)
Aquaman starring Jason Momoa (2018)
Shazam (2019)
Justice League Part Two directed by Zack Snyder (2019)
Cyborg starring Ray Fisher (2020)
Green Lantern (2020)
So I imagine it was Flash moving because of the script/director changes, and Aquaman also getting a new director and being delayed. So it was supposed to be 2 movies a year.

re: Future DC Studios projects discussion thread - News, rumors, etc.

I forgot The Flash was supposed to be this year. I think there was talks of also wanting to shoot for a late 2018 or early 2019 release for The Batman too when it was still being directed by Affleck.

I don't think Johns got a fair shake. Weren't all these movies(other than maybe Aquaman) already deep into production when he took over? Did he really even have a chance to help craft this universe at all?

re: Future DC Studios projects discussion thread - News, rumors, etc.

Johns is still involved, it looks like the original article had mentioned him being removed but articles since then have been revised or updated.

https://www.newsarama.com/38045-geof...s-co-head.html

Geoff Johns will remain co-head of Warner Bros. Pictures' DC Films division, working alongside the newly-promoted Walter Hamada. Hamada's official title will be President, DC-Based Film Production, with Johns remaining as DC Entertainment President and Chief Creative Officer.

“Walter is creative, resourceful, and committed to excellence, and will bring those qualities to his oversight of our superhero films,” said Toby Emmerich, Warner Bros.' President/Chief Content Officer. “He’s a terrific production executive and served as an executive producer on two of the summer’s most popular films, New Line’s It and Annabelle: Creation. I’m confident Walter and Geoff, working with our filmmaking partners, will deliver films that will resonate with both broad global audiences as well as DC fanboys and fangirls. Walter’s a great addition to the Warner Bros. Pictures team, and I look forward to working with him in his new post.”

Variety, which broke the news of Hamada's promotion, originally wrote that both Johns and Berg were out with Hamada the sole head of DC Films. Since their initial report however, they have amended their article with information provided by Warner Bros. The Hollywood trade has not at this point issued a correction.

You mean the reboot that won’t be a true reboot but will write out Affleck?

I have to find the article, but it is within the DCEU, but future movies are going to be self contained rather than have tentacles for some larger story. I wouldn't discount seeing Cavill making some sort of cameo.

Yeah, I remember reading the news about all the other movies avoiding the big tie in.

Yeah, Shazam/Captain Marvel is pretty much the dollar store Superman.

I'm not sure why they're so hellbent on making Shazam happen. Maybe because The Rock wants to play Black Adam? I dunno.

As far as whether or not Shazam is part of the greater DCEU, I don't think anybody knows. I don't think anyone involved in the actual production knows. They're just fumbling around blind over there.
