Yeah, I actually enjoyed this movie more on repeat than I did on the initial viewing. The first time I saw it, I loved the first half but was pretty indifferent to the rather weak 2nd half (the villains aren't the movies strong suit, and Thanos, who I hear is a big part of the MCU, just didn't seem like a good fit with the rest of the movie). Viewing it a second time, I was able to look past the shortcomings in the second half and just enjoy it, and still do. Just an all around fun flick.

This thread update reminds me that I never finished my second viewing (I may have hated it more the second time around). I have the BD lying around somewhere. Maybe the third time will finally be the charm?

Or you just don't care for it and might be better off finding something else? I tried to make it through The Avengers twice and failed, don't see me trying for round 3. Not every movie works for everybody.

That's what I assumed after my failed second attempt. However, I keep getting bombarded by people raving about it so I wonder if I should try if my feelings toward it have softened as they did towards IM2 and Thor 2 (which I grew to view as mediocre but sporadically entertaining).

Haha fair enough, I haven't been able to rewatch IM2, it's such a slog to me for some reason. Thor 2 I should probably watch one of these days.

Guardians is a lot of fun, but I can definitely see how it wouldn't work for everybody (I've been on the opposing side of the whole Firefly/Serenity fanbase for over a decade now).

Your best shot at liking it is to stop trying to like it and forcing yourself to watch it. I know it's less common in the days of DVR and On Demand everything, but I always found I wind up liking movies better if I just happen to catch them on cable, maybe 20 minutes in.

Finally watched this and thought it was pretty good. Definitely hyped too much. The jokes were funny, but not quite LOL funny, and the villains were a little weak. I'd love a sequel with some stronger writing.

I love it even more after every repeat viewing.

This is the Star Wars of the new century so far. No, it won't have the cultural impact SW has, but as far as sci fi/space flicks it is right up there with it. I can't wait for the sequel.
It's too bad you missed it in the theater. I saw it 6 times in the theater. The 3D was well-done and the shots of space were gorgeous.

Also it was great experiencing a fun movie with an audience who were really enjoying themselves. That can heighten the enjoyment. Plus it's always great when an audience applauds at the end. Doesn't happen very often nowadays.

I'm with you bud, I hated it too. I gave it a second chance with a rental and turned it off. Loved the cast though. I tried!

I am having this issue with Bladerunner. i am on my 3rd viewing, my second viewing was probably 10 years ago. I am watching "The Final Cut"....it has taken me 2 days to get to the halfway point. Jesus Christ this movie is so slow and boring it is ridiculous. The setting is cool, but that is it. i will try and power through the last half tonight. I just don't understand why this is such a cult classic

Yeah, I rented it. I fail to see why people loved this so much. There's a lot of poorly integrated and unmotivated action, the characters aren't very likable, and it's predictable as hell what's in that little gift.

Speaking of the gift, the one thing I did thoroughly enjoy was
Spoiler:
the collection of licensed music in the mixtape. I'd like to hear what they assemble for Vol. 2.

I had a lot of fun with this movie. I didn't know a single thing about the comics, don't recall seeing a single trailer, or really heard much of anything beyond generally positive reviews.

James Gunn says there is one "big" hidden easter egg in the movie which evidently nobody has found yet.

James Gunn's mom's name is Star Lord and the character was really named after her?

Aeris from Final Fantasy VII?

I don't know. That just always reminded me of Aeris for some reason although I know it has no relation at all to the game.

Doubt it but it's a nice nod to Frankenstein (1931).
