Just saw this J.G. was phenomenal, liked the driving scenes, pacing was a bit slow and was disappointed with the ending still worth a watch just to see his performance cant believe he didn't get an Oscar nod for this!

This was a good flick but i'm going to have to give it a second watch as it was a bit different than what I thought it would be. J.G. Was outstanding ...im surprised as well that he didn't get any award noms. Renee Russo"s part was integral as well and she played it great.

I dig this flick as well because it had the same vibe as gone girl (being a serious film but clearly not grounded in reality and not giving a shit that's it's not).

Just to note, he got a lot of award noms, just not an oscar nom.

He was nominated for Best Actor by SAG, Golden Globe, BAFTA, Broadcast Film Critics, Idependent Spirit, Satellite, etc; However, more importantly, it puts him on the "watch" list for future awards.

I enjoyed the movie, but like other's have expressed, found something lacking. I feel like Lou's character didn't have much of an arc, he was pretty much the same guy at the end as he was in the beginning. I was never felt the sense of shock or amazement as things escalated, because Lou comes off from scene one as someone dangerous.

The entire movie felt like it was just setting up the situation and the character but then never really did anything with it.

It's a fine movie, no doubt, but it's more of a short story than a novel.

I never felt like they were setting up anything aside from who Lou is. His actions in the opening show the lengths to which he is willing to go to obtain what he wants. In that case, it was the wiring for money. Later, it's to achieve a top position in the stringer business. I didn't have any expectations of him doing something overly outrageous at some point, like he was some sort of ticking timebomb. He's a driven sociopath, nothing more.

Just saw this. Amazing that JG did not get a best acting nod for this. His performance was exceptional. As was his partner, and Renee Russo. Of course they would have been able to prove that he had the license because of his web search, and a search warrant would have found the full video, but I let that slide. First chase scene also in a while that I felt was truly effective, though they don't do them much anymore. Much easier to blow things up.

Jake should have been nominated for Best Actor. It is one of my Top 10 films of the year now. I was absolutely glued to the screen. Loved it. I'm very surprised that some in this thread felt it was too long at 1 hour, 50 minutes. I could have watched it for another 30 minutes.

Everyone should rent this now that it's out on home video.

I rented this movie last night and it was freaking outstanding. Probably one of my favorite movies that came out in 2014.

This was probably one of Jake Gyllenhaal's best acting jobs. Lou was super creepy, but but he wasn't a bad guy. He just super driven to get what he wanted and saw the TV news thing as his calling.

I also enjoyed Rene Russo as the news director. She's still hot IMO for 61. I'm glad she can still get work like this despite her age, but it probably helped that her husband was the director. This kind of resonated with me since I work in TV and see a lot of the behind the scenes aspects of making live TV. I noticed they used the KTLA CW 5 TV studios here in LA as the fictional TV station in the movie. Funny thing to mention, one of my colleagues at work is actually related to Rene Russo.

The big shootout and chase scene along with final shootout at the end was super intense. I almost felt like I was watching snuff film there and other parts of the movie. Especially the home invasion scene.

I would give this movie a solid A.

He was a bad guy, though. Just ask
Spoiler:
Bill Paxtom's character and Rick.

For starters.

One of the best movies I seen this past year. Thrilling and a bit spooky. Jake played a crazy character who I kind of found myself rooting for the entire time no matter what he did.

What happens of you throw Taxi Driver, Network, Ace In the Hole & The Sweet Smell of Success in a blender?

This is more like Drive's cousin.

I don't really get the comparisons to Drive with this one. Totally different vibe, and a lot more psychotic.

Which is why I said cousin. It has that same "new wave-ish" flow to it and even the score is very synth. It's almost as if they exist in the same polluted world. It is L.A. after all. Funny enough the same diner in Drive is the same diner in Nightcrawler.

I guess it does fit into that modern "L.A. Noir" genre a little bit.

To Live and Die in L.A. would fit well with those, too.

Just saw this last night and loved it. Jake's character was both scary & fascinating. He was a sociopath educated by the internet.

I see it as a combination of Taxi Diver & King of Comedy.

Just watched this the other night. Very solid. Could have trimmed 20 though to tighten it up a bit. It wasn't quite the character study I think the filmmakers may have intended. I also wasn't a fan of the ending, without spoilers, literally the last minute of film.

Nah, that steelbook is kind of ugly. I won't be double-dipping for that one.
