Re: Most overexposed movie clips

Not sure how over exposed it may be, but it seems like I've seen George Melies' shot of the spaceship crashing into the moon (from "A Trip to the Moon") A LOT over the years.

This has to be a contender. It appears on pretty much every clip montage ever played for films.

3. E. T. and his glowing finger.
I can't decide if E.T. and his glowing finger or the shot of the flying bicycle in front of the moon is played more.

Speaking of contenders, I'm willing to bet the vast majority of people who have never seen On the Waterfront have seen the scene where Marlon Brando gives his "I coulda been a contender..." line at some point in time.

How about The Seven Year Itch where Marilyn Monroe's skirt blows up while standing on the vent. Although this might not technically count since the famous image we see on all the posters, cardboard cut outs, T-shirts, collectible plates, etc. is an out take not actually in the movie.

Re: Most overexposed movie clips

Funny how many of the first ones to pop into my head feature Jack Nicholson:

- "Heeeeere's Johnny!"

- "You can't handle the truth!"

- Giggling while spraying the water hose from the fountain.

- "I want you to hold it between your knees."

- Laying back in the rowboat with his newly bandaged nose.

- Riding on the back of some asshole's motorcycle wearing a football helmut

-"Nice outfit."

I think the problem with a few of those films is they have multiple iconic clips which are used which lessens the overexposure. Jaws has the skinny dipper going under which gets shown quite a bit, the Vertigo shot of Brody on the beach, Bruce on the boat about to eat Quint, the drunk scar comparison scene. ET has the moon shot as GoldenCJ mentioned, ET standing on his ship heart glowing, ET in drag. Gump has all kinds of shots that get used. Oz has the shot of the group walking down the yellow brick road, addressing the Wizard, the house on the East Witch.

Gene Kelly, Scarlett and Here's Johnny are solid ones though, IMO. Those clips define those films.

Re: Most overexposed movie clips

Humphrey Bogart saying, "Play it again, Sam".

Cary Grant saying, "Judy, Judy, Judy!"

William Shatner saying, "Beam me up, Scotty."

Jimmy Cagney saying, "You dirty rat!"

Alec Guinness saying, "May the Force be with you."

I swear, if I have to see any of these clips one more time, I'll kill myself.

Wasn't that in SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE? Or did Boyle feature it in both films?

Goooood morning Vietnam

Ugh, maybe it's because I despise Robin Williams but I hate seeing this played over and over again.

Re: Most overexposed movie clips

Forget which channel is showing it this summer, but the Jaws clip they keep using in ads is (amazed it's not posted here) "You're gonna need a bigger boat."

I still maintain Jaws has too many iconic scenes to narrow it down to "that scene" from Jaws akin Singing in the Rain.
