Planes, Trains and Automobiles, Meet The Parents, Smokey And The Bandit at the theater. At home, I was watching Me Myself and Irene and kept missing stuff I was laughing so much. Comedies are usually better with an audience so very difficult for a solo viewing to be that good

Re: Hardest you've ever busted a gut laughing at a movie?

Waaay back in '74 you didn't know a movie was even being made until you saw the ad in the newspaper, 90% of the time.
A friend won two tickets to a midnight secret sneak preview from a radio station. We sat in the car getting stoned then went into see a movie we had no idea what it was.
The movie starts. It's Blazing Saddles. From the way the movie starts the audience thought it was a regular western. Talk about being blindsided!
Never laughed so hard in my life.

Went to see Blazing saddles with one of my first real girlfriends. We walked in late cause I got lost. At one point a lighter scene is on the screen, I look around, we are the only two in the theater. Weird watching a comedy like that in the theater with no audience.

Speaking of Mel Brooks, went on a double-date and I picked out the movie. I took them to the theater to surprise them. None of them had heard about Young Frankenstein. They thought it was a regular Frankenstein movie. Yes, they wound up laughing their butts off.

I was 14 when I saw Dumb and Dumber in the theater. I was crying during the toilet scene.

As I get older I really don't bust out laughing at movies like I used to. I wonder if that's more about me or the movies that come out?

South Park: BLU. especially when the boys find the online porn with Cartman's mom. I understand a little German and as soon as I heard "Essen mein scheisser " I lost it, and everyone around me in the theater looked at me like WTF is wrong with you. Which means they missed the boys' reaction.

Ruthless People- The scene where Bill Pullmans character thinks the mayor(if I remember right) is killing a girl but is actually having sex as he secretly films it. His reaction when he shows the tape to his female accomplice kills me everytime. But the biggest laugh has to be with the blind kid and the dead parakeet in dumb and dumber lol

Re: Hardest you've ever busted a gut laughing at a movie?

I recently watched Airplane with my teenage daughter. I was so happy to see that it not only held up for me, but she found it hilarious as well.

But the hardest I've ever laughed in the theater was Ace Ventura: Pet Detective...the final reveal at the end. I saw it in this rinky dink, crummy dollar theater and literally slid out of my seat on to the grimy floor in a screaming/laughing fit.

Also, it took me and my brother at least 4 hours to finish our first viewing of Anchorman. We would start laughing for so long, then rewind the part and laugh for 10 minutes more. Sex Panther by Odeon...

Re: Hardest you've ever busted a gut laughing at a movie?

Back in 1980, some friends of mine and I went to see The Black Hole, and saw we could stay for a sneak for a new movie. The picture was of an airplane tied in a knot. We had NO idea what to expect. The movie turned out to be Airplane, of course, and my group of friends were the perfect companions to see it with. We were roaring by the time the whole Mayo clinic and bouncing heart scene happened. It was like a Mad Magazine came to life.

Second hardest I ever laughed in my life was Ace Venture: When Nature Calls, when he was "birthed" from the back of the fake rhino. My son was with me, and we were crying, laughing so hard.

Recently caught Liar Liar on cable and couldn't stop laughing. Carrey was so over the top and great in every scene.

Re: Hardest you've ever busted a gut laughing at a movie?

I laughed quite a bit reading this thread and remembering these scenes, great stuff.

For some reason, the way the thread title is worded makes me think of only examples from going to see a movie in the theater. I know there are plenty of times I've busted a gut laughing at a movie at home, but here are six times I remember laughing in the theater:

1. BASEketball was a laugh riot from start to finish, but the scene in the locker room where you get this 1.5-second glance at Coop and Remer's 4' dicks goes by like *snap* that and a few seconds later, the entire theater erupted with laughter, like "WTF was that?!" We watched this movie on VHS in college so, so, so much.

2. Bowfinger isn't in my top ten by all means, but in a sold out crowd on opening night at the Mall of America movie theater, we were all laughing the entire time. Agree with other posts here: the dog in shoes, Kip's brother running across the highway, and I'll add when Afrim starts melting in front of Kip was so, so good.

3. About a Boy isn't a movie I would have chosen to see. I figured it was just some Hugh Grant romantic comedy, but my sister dragged me to it. We were going to see Attack of the Clones but it was sold out and she said, great, Hugh Grant it is. Eh, okay. Well, I loved it, great movie (great book, too). There's a line in that movie that caught me so off guard and is so dark that I burst out laughing. Young Marcus and his mom are in their flat the day after she returns from the hospital after a suicide attempt and he says he found her note. She says she forgot all about that. He's angry, saying how could you forget about a suicide note?! She says, laughing in a pitiful attempt to lighten the mood, "Well, I didn't think I would have to remember, did I?" I laughed and couldn't stop. The theater was otherwise dead quiet. My sister was so mad at me, which made me laugh even harder, it took a while to calm down.

4. Spaceballs is special because I saw it on my eighth birthday with my parents. We were brand-new in town and the owner let me in for free, I thought that was so cool. People liked the movie but my parents tell me that the theater was pretty calm during it. Calm, that is, until the alien pops out of Kane's chest and does the "Hello, my baby, hello, my honey!" song and dance routine. The way they tell it, I giggled and giggled about it (I was a big Looney Tunes fan so I knew the song well) and there was something about hearing an 8-year-old boy giggling that set the crowd off so everyone was laughing, too. I've since been in situations where a kid laughing (or crying) can set everyone else off, so I believe their perspective on the story.

5. Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Movie is in my top ten and my favorite experience of it is watching it in college when the film society screened it. All these 18-22 year olds, film nerds and others with nothing else to do on a Friday night, all crammed into the smaller theater in the student union, laughing and laughing throughout the movie. A fun, unexpected moment was when the film in the movie bubbles and melts and goes to white, we heard the projectionist yell and run back into the booth. He forgot / didn't know that was part of the movie and he thought the actual film in the projector was melting, which made us all laugh even harder.

6. Dumb & Dumber - Me, too, Ranger! I don't think I stopped laughing through the rest of the movie after Lloyd fantasizes about shooting Mary's rescued husband at the end. It was so unexpected and the expression on his face was so funny.

The only one I can think of off the top of my head is The Hangover. Me and a couple of my friends went and it had us going through a good chunk of the film. Probably not the funniest film I've seen but definitely had a good experience watching it the first time.

Someone bump this thread in 2018 so that Giantrobo can remember laughing for a good couple of hours afterwards.

This scene from A Mighty Wind. Fred Willard can do or say just about anything and at the very least it will get a smile out of me. When I saw this scene in the theater, I was literally on the floor I was laughing so hard.

edit: Hah! Just realized I posted pretty much the same exact thing on the first page of this thread.

A lot of Supertroopers but the one I still loose it at is in Play it Again Sam when he has that drink at the bar.
Thank god I've only seen that film at home on TV or I would've got some weird looks at the cinema.

Also, the 1st Ace Ventura. Right at the beginning when he is kicking that parcel down the road.
