Someone brought up a good point on another SW message board.
Old schoolers like me call the OT movies: Star Wars, Empire and Jedi.
Now I have to say Return Jedi and Last Jedi.
That's my only little critique of the title in that they are repeating a key word from a previous title.

A thought just occurred to me: What if Luke isn't just the last Jedi for now, what if he is the last Jedi EVER?

Also the plural of Jedi is Jedi, so could be referring to Luke and Rey here.

I'm really coming around to the idea that Luke will end the Jedi order of old, with all their rules and restrictions, and bring forth a new order of Force users (Chirrut Imwe in Rogue One would be a good start to getting the audience used to that idea).

Leia is not a Jedi. Doesn't matter if she is force sensitive. If she never went under training to become a Jedi, then she is not a Jedi.

That would make it a retcon of a retcon, since originally, it was not meant to be Leia in the first place. It was supposed to set up Luke's quest to find another lost Jedi and defeat the Emperor in a sequel trilogy. Lucas was exhausted from the stress of making the movies (plus his divorce) so ROTJ tied up everything leaving no loose ends. (Source: Secret History of Star Wars... great book)
Anywho, Obi-wan pretty clearly said the other was Leia. That would be a tough sell to fans that Yoda was flat out lying to Obi-Wan.

Again, just because Leia is force sensitive and had the potential to become something more (and possibly save the galaxy if Luke failed) does not make her a Jedi.

I'm not saying Leia is a Jedi. I'm just saying that Yoda's "other" hope is Leia. Yoda never said the "other" was a Jedi. All he is talking about is that if Luke fails to bring down Vader, that Leia can take his place. From my opinion, there's no way the ESB Yoda scene can be retconed to mean anything else, such as Rey is the other.

Gotcha, I thought the direction this conversation was headed was that Luke cannot be "The Last Jedi" without a retcon because Leia is still around.

Rey wasn't even born yet when Yoda was talking about "another".

Note: I have not seen Rogue One so forgive me if that is not accurate.

In canon, the Bendu is now a Force-sensitive creature on "Rebels"

The "There is another" from ESB is Luke's twin sister who, at the time it was made, was not intended to be Leia and would have shown up in Episode VIII. WHEN lucas got around to making ROTJ, he closed the storyline off and made Leia the other twin.
I wonder if Rey is the "last Jedi." From what we sawin TFA, it looks like Luke might not be a Jedi any longer. He failed at bringing the Jedi order back, he took off and went into hiding, and he never took the lightsabre Rey offered him. Looks to me like he gave up and quit.

Luke being a quitter would be a HORRIBLE storyline for the character, unless Rey convinces him to come back, which is what I assume will happen.
