Re: Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi (12/15/17, W/D: Rian Johnson)

Here’s my take on this:

Spoiler:
If Luke is on the Falcon, I’m assuming it’s because they’re about to leave Ach-To. If that’s the case, then that means it’s AFTER the attack by the Knights on that planet(as rumored). So IF that scene at the end is on the same planet, it’s either part of Rey’s training and they’re NOT really “fighting” or those are just 2 different shots during the Knights fight.

Then again, in the BTS and the first trailer, we see Daisy running with the ignited saber still in her pre-Ach-to hairdo. So if THAT is when the Knights attack, then that Rey/Luke scene at the end is from a different time in the movie (because Rey has her post-Ach-to ‘do) and they really are fighting each other. Shit. Is that after Snoke uses the Cruciatus Curse on her? And that’s what turns her bad? Shit.

December 14 can’t come soon enough.

Couldn’t get good tickets for Friday or Saturday, so I’m seeing it on Sunday the 17th in IMAX 2D. It’s not 70mm sadly but should still be better than a standard screen.

I think that's simply lens flare, even without JJ Abrams at the helm!

It would also anger a lot of people. I'm all for prioritizing a good story over fan reaction but this franchise is built on fan reaction, I just can't see that happening unless she's redeemed in the same movie.

And I'm not just talking older Star Wars nerds like us (because what do I care) but they just launched this line of Star Wars dolls as heroes and it features Rey, for instance.

That trailer confirms she's talking to

Spoiler:
Luke, not Kylo Ten, about her place in all of this.

So it was deceptive editing in the other trailer, like I said.

I don't know if this was even something that was rumored. But no Lando.

Confirmed: Lando Calrissian will not appear in Star Wars: The Last Jedi

shame about Billy Dee's Lando.
holding out hope he shows up in Ep 9.

“Sorry Billy Dee, we’ve already got John Boyega in this movie. There’s only room for one black man at a time in the Star Wars galaxy.”

Agreed. Sounds like they had the perfect place to "slot" him in as well.

???

Luke Skywalker was in the movie for 2 minutes, that's anything but fan service. Fan Service would have been him saving the day when Rey is fighting Kylo Ren in the lightsaber fight or something like that. Can you imagine the theater crowd if you hear someone light up their lightsaber and Luke goes after Kylo Ren?

Fan service would have been to make Leia a kickass Jedi who force chokes someone or uses the force for anything in the movie, instead she is a General who does nothing for most of the movie.

.
Have you seen interviews with Billy Dee Williams lately? The guy is old and his speech reflects that now as it would be sad to watch old Lando on screen. He was on Arsenio Hall a few years back before TFA came out, and he was very slow with his speech, as didn't have that quick with like a young Lando would have. Let's put it this way, he didn't age as gracefully as a Clint Eastwood did who is still cool into his 80's.

For what it's worth, he sounds OK on Rebels.

And I don't think anyone ever has aged as well as Eastwood.

I don't want to come off as disrespecting Billy Dee Williams, as we all get old. Lando was a very charismatic character, and I think the guy from The Wedding Singer sort of summed it up: "Nodoby wants to see a 70 year old Fonzie hitting on chicks."
