He wasn't the issue with the PT, everybody was terrible in those movies. And I think you can pin that primarily on Lucas.

Ewan McGregor was good...but that's about it.

Ewan McGregor has an accent that covers up any flaws in acting because it's inherently anti-monotone.

... or something

I really can't see Disney bringing back Hayden as Anakin. It wouldn't make sense unless he was a Force ghost or was seen in a flashback. Even then though I can't see why they'd actually have either of those scenarios play out when they seem to be putting distance between what they're doing and the Prequel Trilogy and especially given how critical people have been of that character.

I'd honestly rather see Jar Jar again still up to his clumsy hijinks than Christensen as Anakin again, and I like him overall as an actor.

Wouldn't a Hayden appearance in ROGUE ONE make much more sense? I'd actually have no problem with him there...just keep him out of the main trilogy.

why have him at all?

Main trilogy or not... he's related to the worst SW films. Shit. He wasn't even good in them, not totally his fault but still...

He could play Vader when he goes into his meditation chamber and takes his mask off.

Exactly...someone has to play Vader, and David Prowse is too old and too ill to get back in the suit.

As long as the suit is on, how would anyone know? It could be a stuntman, a mime, and all kinds of different people during different scenes.

To be be fair, Laurence Olivier couldn't have given a good performance in the PT ;-).

Latino Review is reporting that "Beyond the Lights" star Gugu Mbatha-Raw is also on the shortlist for one of two new female parts in Episode VIII. Sci-Fi fans may remember her role as the younger sister of Martha Jones on Doctor Who.

There's more to physical acting than just walking around. Vader looked awkward to me in ROTS, he didn't have the same physical presence as the character does in the OT.

They showed him in full costume for, what, 10 seconds? He had just gotten new artificial legs and had never stood on them before. For that matter, it was the first time he ever had the suit on.

Then there's the matter of age and experience. People cower when they see Vader. After 20 years or so of that, of course you are going to carry yourself differently.

There's just no way to compare the tiny glimpse of Vader we got at the end of ROTS to the one from the OT.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VIII (5/26/17, W/D: Rian Johnson)

Collider is reporting Gugu has already been cast. Apparently, Johnson was impressed by her work in "Beyond the Lights".

Remember, there are rumors of two new female parts. Maslany just signed up for a movie about the Boston marathon bombing and Olivia Cooke has been cast in "Ready Player One", so they're both probably out of the running. That leaves Gina Rodriguez from the actresses we've heard were shortlisted.

EDIT: Fans are suspecting Rodriguez got the role, as she apparently started following Johnson, Boyega and Nyong'o on Twitter recently. If that's the case, the rumor that we'll be seeing

Spoiler:
Han and Leia's daughter introduced in Episode VIII is sounding less and less likely. While we know nothing about this new character (other than she needs to have chemistry with Finn), I would have really preferred to see Maslany or Olivia Cooke in a Star Wars movie over Rodriguez.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VIII (5/26/17, W/D: Rian Johnson)

Several returning cast members have been confirmed during the TFA press tour:

Spoiler:
Kathleen Kennedy acknowledged that Benicio Del Toro has a role in VIII and that Boyega, Isaac and Christie are all set to return when filming begins at the end of January. Apparently, they have big plans in store for Captain Phasma.

We know Hamill and Ridley already filmed on Skellig Michael. Abrams also mentioned that Snoke and Maz Kanata will carry over into the sequels... and costumer designer Michael Kaplan said he looked forward to dressing Carrie Fisher again for the sequels. So the only main players yet to be confirmed for future movies (other than Chewie and the droids) are Driver, Ford and Gleeson -- and with those last two, you can probably guess the reason.
Kennedy also mentioned that exterior shots for Episode VIII would be filmed on the outskirts of Mexico.

Oh, and this:

Who gets that flustered if they have nothing to hide?

New casting info:

http://makingstarwars.net/2015/12/a-...sting-process/

Spoiler:
It seems actresses trying out for Episode VIII are being given old scripts from The Clone Wars cartoon featuring dialogue from Ki-Adi Mundi (the conehead Jedi) and Plo Koon. They have apparently been advised to study those characters. This implies there is at least some stoic, Jedi-like line delivery required for the role.

Would be cool if
Spoiler:
Ashoka came back into the fold. Though they'd need an explanation on where she's been during Episode 4-7.

Bump for speculation now that we've seen VII.

I'm psyched that Rian Johnson will be doing this one. I assume it'll have a darker tone to mimic Empire's feel, and he's shown he can go dark very well.

I suspect that
Spoiler:
the movies won't make many references to the tv shows, sort of like how they're doing the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The tv show(s) will occasionally react to events in the films, but the films will rarely react to events in the films or feature characters introduced in the tv shows.

The big test will probably be the Rogue 1 movie, which will take place shortly after the "Rebels" timeline, so if they're going to pull tv elements into the movies, that's the first and most obvious place to look.

(Since this is speculation, I don't know if it needs spoilered, but I'll follow the lead.)

Re: Star Wars: Episode VIII (5/26/17, W/D: Rian Johnson)

It's not. It's actually not worth spoilering either.

Rogue One takes place after Rebels. You'd expect some aspect of that format to influence some nature of Rogue One cuz of the the timeline. But I'd be surprised if it does considering how isolated it really is. It'll probably be like the MCU and how it handles the different formats. The show won't matter to the films. Cuz it just makes sense that way. Not everybody has time to dedicate to a show. It also ostracizes your fanbase if it is made as a necessary component to the narrative. At best you'll hear of an event from the show that is mentioned in the film but.... it's not important. Just information for something.

Question: What is the exact placement that Rebels has? it's Between the trilogies but how far in terms of a time period.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VIII (5/26/17, W/D: Rian Johnson)

Set fourteen years after Revenge of the Sith and five years before A New Hope, Rebels takes place during an era when the Galactic Empire is securing its grip on the galaxy.
