Hmm, that's actually a pretty good theory.

Could be the big twist for Episode IX.

That would be fucking stupid, IMO. That goes for anything involving a clone.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi (12/15/17, W/D: Rian Johnson)

Maybe Emilia Clarke's character in the Han SOlo movie is Rey's mother. Got knocked up by one of Han's scoundrel buddies.

Or Rey is from something like Dathomir, a planet of powerful witches. Rey's family knows she's strong in the Force but don't want her trained by the witches. So they flee the planet. Snoke hears about this planet and sees it as a threat to him and has the First Order wipe it out. Rey's family are being chased by the First Order and leave her at Jakku and are later killed.

Maybe Rey is Han's daughter... from Emilia Clarke.

I know, I know... Rey's not 30. Maybe Han went in for a re-tap.

I almost somewhat expect Rey's origin to tie into Anakin's 'virgin' birth somehow.

If you look at the official Lucas films the Darth Plagueis story and Shimi's explanation for Anakin's birth just stick out like big WTFs and I can see Disney running with some type of answer to it all. Perhaps Snoke was running around the galaxy dropping these "test tube babies" to see what would happen.

"I've seen this raw strength only once before. It didn't scare me enough then."
So... who is Luke talking about?

Candidates:
  • Palpatine
  • Vader
  • Kylo
  • Snoke
  • Chief Chirpa

You're saying Kylo, who got bested in a duel by someone holding a saber for the first time, is more powerful than Palpatine who basically wiped out Luke with one move (force lightning)? He is someone who didn't scare Luke enough. Luke walked into that throne room like no big deal when he should've shaken in his boots.

Luke uses the phrase "raw strength" which is what throw me off. Palpy is undoubtedly more "powerful" but "raw strength"? I dunno. Maybe Kylo after all.

Vader during ESB. Remember Obi1 and Yoda trying to warn him he wasn't ready but Luke rushed in and found out he had no chance. He wasn't scared to face him but found out he should have been.

I think it is Kylo. The key being "raw" power.

It cuts to an older Luke crawling from the wreckage and watching what is presumably his Jedi Temple burn when he says that. Unless the trailer intentionally misleads us, he's talking about Kylo.

I think he's talking about Kylo too. That said, I believe this trailer is intentionally misleading about a lot of things, so who knows.

Yes... the "it didn't scare me enough then" is key, IMO. He was responsible for training Kylo and he failed by letting him turn to the dark side.

After the teaser came out Hamill was asked about what Luke was talking about in it and he said he honestly didn't know because they just recorded him for that teaser. It's quite possible their is dialogue here that isn't in the movie, but serves as misdirection.

I have yet to see anything from Kylo that shows anything other than average force ability and skills, certainly not enough for Luke to be scared of.

Now Palpatine had power Luke had never seen or expected, but he doesnt fit the 'not scared part'. I'm sure Luke was pretty scared while getting fried during ROTJ.

I'm going to maintain it's Vader, because as he told Yoda.

I'm not afraid. - Luke
Good. You will be. You will be. - Yoda

Well in all fairness the guy got shot in the stomach by a fucking bow caster prior to the duel. I don’t think he was quite at 100 percent.

That's true, but raw strength doesn't get shot with a bow caster to begin with!

I really don't see how he could be talking about anyone else (Kylo). As far as raw strength?? I didn't see Vader, Maul, Palpatine or any Sith/Jedi chit chat will suspending a LASER mid-air!

Their reviews of the prequels--which is what really put them on the map--were good, but lately a lot of their stuff making fun of fans has come off as mean spirited, IMO.
