I agree. But I also remember that The Phantom Menace trailer blew. Me. Away. And we remember how that shit turned out!

Like you said though, I’ll still see it in the theater and will most certainly buy the Blu-ray when it’s released, so I guess it doesn’t really matter if the trailer is good or not.

Snoke is Rey's father.

I fondly remember tuning in to watch it on E!TV and then spending like 8 hours downloading it via AOL.

Spoiler:
I just realized in the trailer Han Solo reincarnated as a cute little owl.

I think Disney might see a problem with that since they’ve built Rey up as a strong female character and role model to young girls. At this point I think they painted themselves into a corner with how bad Rey can get.

Yeah, I think Disney iwll play it safe and copy ESB. Rey's family should be explained in this.

I don't know what Rian means by "different".

While I agree with you on your point, I think that have some wiggle room. If they make Rey turn to the darkside in TLJ and then turns back to the light in Epsiode 9, then they can pull it off with the fans. Now I don't know if that will be too cliché because it maybe too obvious. Especially if she is doing a head fake the whole time and giving into the darkside with Snoke.

I still think that there are a lot of options because this is the first Trilogy where they are focusing on 2 characters (Rey and Ren), compared to the PT being about Anakin and the OT being about Luke.

I have to believe that Rey or Ren (or both) will switch sides in either Episode 8 or 9, or maybe they both join forces in Episode 9? I would say if they are going to sacrifice one of these main characters at the end of Episode 9, it would probably be Kylo Ren.

Sounds like Snape at the end of The Half Blood Prince novel, where there's the whole good guy/bad guy cliffhanger that led into the final book.

Maybe they're going for a Dark Empire thing? It was one of the few graphic novels that George specifically mentioned as liking.

Spoiler:
It has Luke intentionally going to the dark side under the tutelage of a cloned Emperor Palpatine to learn the secrets, before being pulled back by the love of his family and friends.

It's no longer canon, but Disney/LFL is free to pull concepts from all the old books and comics as they see fit.

Completely agree on TPM trailer. But we also hadn't had any new Star Wars movies for 16 years at that point. That drove the excitement for me, at least partially.

And the same held from Force Awakens. Less of a layoff between new Star Wars movies, but still the same effect. Han and Chewy are home!! ETC.

This trailer had none of that for me.

.
I actually thought all of the PT trailers were great, as they always started with Vader breathing and that pumped you up for the rest of the trailer. That's why I don't go crazy over these trailers anymore because I've sort of learned that a good trailer does not equal a good movie. I still think that people who go into these blockbuster sequels expecting it to be the greatest movie in the world are going to be let down. These are sequels/prequels so they are naturally going to be inferior simply because there is only so much new stuff you can throw at a viewer. Movies like The Empire Strikes Back and The Godfather 2 are pure exceptions to the rules, but 95% of sequels are just not going to live up to the original movie. I'm walking into TLJ the same way I did with TFA, I'm thinking I will enjoy it but I'm not expecting Empire Strikes Back sequel greatness.

Yeah, the AOTC "Breathing" trailer is my favorite PT trailer. Also like the AOTC "Clone War" trailer.

We should get the international trailer for the Last Jedi next month. Some might like that one more.

Rey asks Kylo for help - real or Force vision?

If it's real, I wonder if it would actually lead to romance. Impossible?

My guess is that's a misdirection. Seems to me those clips are from two different scenes. I believe Rey is actually talking to Luke. The Kylo segment appears to be a different location/time. Notice the difference in lighting. Rey appears to be sitting by a campfire, and Kylo appears to be somewhere that has exploded/is burning down. Ash falling next to him. Just guessing of course. Haha!

Good point. Real, Force vision, or very misleading edit.

Does Rey need to have a connection to an already-known family? In-movie, there's no hint that she comes from a known bloodline. It's all been our speculation. Maybe the mystery of her past is simply how she was taken away from the Smith family cuz she was too f'n powerful to be contained.

But Hell... 30 years after ROTJ? Maybe she's Rowan Freemaker's daughter.

The whole idea behind the Star Wars numbered saga movies seems to be a multigenerational epic that follows the Skywalker family, so I would expect the "forcey" Reyto have some connection to the Skywalker clan.

Does Kylo not fit this criteria?
