Character development? TFA established that it's not a respirator or anything, it was just for effect. So whatever new training Snoke has been doing, that must mean Kylo doesn't want the mask anymore.

Kylo was a helluva lot more menacing with the mask.

I'm really nervous about Eps VIII and IX.
I just have a feeling that the powers that be (Lucasfilm, the writers, the directors) are going to try to be too clever, outsmart themselves, and pull the story in a really awful direction. There are just too many stupid directions they could take the "mystery" characters Rey or Snoke, or the story as a whole.
The "I am your father," reveal in ESB set a precedent that other filmmakers might feel like they need to live up to, and they'll feel a need ro drop some kind of left field bombshell into the story that is more likely than not to to catastrophically fail.

I wonder what Rian Johnson did, as this production has been free of any major behind the scenes madness. All of the other Disney/Lucasfilm projects have had major issues, even The Force Awakens.

Seriously.
Imagine if Disney had the balls to release nothing but the teaser trailer, and every TV spot was made up purely of clips from that brief footage.
Now THAT might get people even more interested.

Not really news... but I remember this being debated:
http://ew.com/movies/2017/09/07/star...tainmentweekly
And here is a link to the more in-depth NYT interview: https://www.nytimes.com/2017/09/06/m...l?mcubz=1&_r=0
Who exactly is The Last Jedi? Many Star Wars fans have been picking their brains over that question to director Rian Johnson‘s Episode VIII of the Skywalker Saga, and the powers that be have been vague in the past. Is it Mark Hamill’s Luke Skywalker, since he was referenced as “the last Jedi” in the opening title crawl for The Force Awakens? Is “Jedi” plural in this case? Is it Daisy Ridley’s Rey, emerging as a new pupil for the war-weary knight?
Johnson had a more definitive answer in a new interview with The New York Times.
“It’s in the opening crawl of The Force Awakens,” he clarified. “Luke Skywalker, right now, is the last Jedi. There’s always wiggle room in these movies — everything is from a certain point of view — but coming into our story, he is the actual last of the Jedi. And he’s removed himself and is alone on this island, for reasons unknown.”
Perhaps this will change, as the filmmaker confirmed “the heart of the movie is Luke and Rey.” He said, “It follows all the other characters, but its real essence is the development of the two of them. And it’s absolutely tied up in that question of, What is Luke’s attitude toward the Jedi?”
Johnson and Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm and producer on The Last Jedi, dodged questions over the title’s meaning in Vanity Fair‘s big Star Wars cover story. On whether the title was meant to be plural or singular, she said, “In my head, it’s singular. It makes sense with the story, to me, that it’s singular.”
During a chat with ABC News in April, Johnson wouldn’t confirm the title as a reference to Luke. “Well, if you say so,” he said to the suggestion. “I’m gonna take your word for it. They say in The Force Awakens that he’s going to find the last Jedi temple, and Luke is the last Jedi.”
Star Wars: The Last Jedi will also pick up with John Boyega’s Finn, Oscar Isaac’s Poe Dameron, Adam Driver’s Kylo Ren, and a host of returning players. We’ll also see Laura Dern’s purple-haired Vice Admiral Amilyn Holdo, Benicio Del Toro’s “enigmatic” DJ, Kelly Marie Tran’s Resistance mechanic Rose Tico, and an evil droid counterpart for BB-8.
The film will hit theaters — and answer more burning theories — on Dec. 15.

Here's an alleged plot synopsis of the movie:
https://makingstarwarsfrance.net/201...-episode-viii/
I glanced through it against my better judgment, though it's in French and my French is quite rusty so I got nothing out of it. Didn't have the balls to run it through google translate, though.

Everyone keep in mind that the longest Star Wars movie is Attack of the Clones.

I'm not a fan of the modern blockbuster and their 2 1/2-3 hour runtimes. If you look at Star Wars, Jaws, ET, Raiders of the Lost Ark, etc, they all came in at roughly 2 hours and had perfect pacing. I am a big Rian Johnson fan, so I'm still bullish on this movie, but it will be interesting to see how it shakes out.

I hope they're using the longer runtime to explain everything that needs to be explained, instead of leaving it for the secondary media to cover.
(TFA dropped the ball here by not making it clear what planet was blown up, lot's of people thought it was Coruscant).

I'm sure it'll be an extra 4-5 minutes in some cantina or casino where a shit-ton of characters are shown and later turned into obscure action figures.
