I can't believe we're only going to have to wait a year and a half between Episodes. That sure beats waiting three years for each one.

Hamill/Ford/Fisher aren't getting any younger. And I think Ford only has one more plane crash left in him.

I just noticed that Star Wars Episode VIII and Guardians of the Galaxy II are both scheduled for release in May 2017. So two big "space opera" movies releasing in the same month?

From the same studio. It is pretty odd.

I don't think Ford is going to be involved. Is that a spoiler?

That is actually a decent question. Are we allowed to name actors in this movie? The episode VII thread has the big three in the title which to some degree is a spoiler since they were not even in the trailer.

I liked Looper quite a bit. Looking forward to it.

MSW quotes a Hong Kong newspaper article claiming "Ip Man" star Donnie Yen has been cast.

With the guys from "The Raid" rumored to be in Episode VII, it sounds like this new trilogy will have no shortage of Asian martial artists kicking ass on screen.

Donnie Yen needs as much exposure to Americans as he can.

Star Wars: Episode VIII Eyes Benicio Del Toro to Play Villain

http://www.thewrap.com/star-wars-epi...ain-exclusive/

Not the first time he's been linked to this franchise. There was a rumor he passed on playing Darth Maul in Episode I because the character didn't have enough lines.

He could reprise the Collector role from the MCU and have a Star Wars/MCU crossover. I seriously doubt a crossover like that would ever happen, but who knows.

I hate all these casting reports before the person in question is actually signed. Wasn't Jesse Plemons supposed to star in Ep. 7?

^ Plemons was one of the five actors shortlisted for the role of Finn.

Variety is also running the del Toro story. They mention the studio met with Joaquin Phoenix as well, but it's Benicio who supposedly has the offer.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VIII (5/26/17, W/D: Rian Johnson)

Benicio Del Toro confirmed the reports while speaking with Entertainment Tonight during Hollywood Foreign Press Association's Grants Banquet and seemed optimistic that the deal would go through:

I can’t tell you much about it but I think it might happen. It looks like it’s gonna happen so I’m very excited. I can’t talk too much about it. The script is hard to get. They told me they’d cut my finger if I talk about it.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VIII (5/26/17, W/D: Rian Johnson)

http://geeknation.com/exclusive-stro...o-could-it-be/

According to one of our inside sources, we have heard that Disney and Lucasfilm are currently in the midst of looking for a strong, young female character to be featured heavily in Star Wars: Episode VIII. Our sources say that Rian Johnson himself has been heavily involved in the process as well. So this should be some exciting news for all you female SW fans out there because a new, strong female character will be introduced into the new trilogy in Episode VIII. We know that for sure.

Here’s where things get a little more interesting though. According to our anonymous source, the role isn’t for just a completely new female character in the series, but the character is allegedly

Spoiler:
Han Solo’s daughter in the film. Now, I know what you’re going to say. That doesn’t make any sense because Daisy Ridley’s Rey is Han Solo’s daughter right? That’s why they’re keeping her last name secret after all, and I mean, we saw her piloting the Millennium Falcon at one point! There’s no way she’s not Han’s daughter right?

But do we actually know for sure that Ridley’s character is the Solo daughter? It’s entirely possible, and we here at the GeekNation offices were even a little confused when we heard this scoop for the first time. However, wouldn’t it be really interesting if Han Solo’s daughter isn’t even introduced until Episode VIII? What if The Force Awakens does end up mostly focusing on introducing us to some completely new characters, and maybe some of them have ties to characters from the past, but not nearly as many as most of the fan speculation has pointed at.

Judging by some insider details that we have about the role, it seems like the new, female character will have strong ties to the Solo family, and all signs seem to be pointing towards her being Han’s daughter.
No frontrunner has been revealed yet for the role, and it’s likely that Disney and Lucasfilm will want to keep it a secret until after the release of The Force Awakens. But all in all, it’s looking more and more like the Star Wars universe is in store for an even stronger female presence in its future.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VIII (5/26/17, W/D: Rian Johnson)

That spoiler is just mind-boggling stupid.
Spoiler:
They act like if the Episode VIII female is Han Solo's daughter, then that automatically means Daisy Ridley's character can't also be Han Solo's daughter. I just facepalmed so hard. Some families have more than one kid. They can BOTH be Han Solo's daughters. Heck, in the EU, Han and Leia had three kids, two boys and one girl.

I don't think Rey is Han's daughter...I'm starting to think that

Spoiler:
Finn is Han's son. Recent comic book events - which are canon - would back up that idea.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VIII (5/26/17, W/D: Rian Johnson)

^ Seriously? I figure the wife thing was more of a stunt to get people talking about the comic. Canon aside, I'll be shocked if it gets brought up in the movies. Either way, it was before he got with Leia -- so we're talking nearly forty years prior. I'm also not buying Boyega as half Caucasian.

Perhaps this new female role is a carry over from the original draft of Episode VII. There was a second lead role for a teenage girl on the casting sides that never got filled.

Spoiler:
They could both be Han's children. Finn could be Han's child with his first wife from the comics. Rey could be Han's child with Leia. This rumored new Episode III character could be a third child.

What is it with people thinking a family can only have one child?

And hey, if Rey and Finn are half-siblings, then it would be like the Fantastic Four all over again!

But I do agree with the previous poster who said if Finn was the child of Han and his first wife, then Finn would have to be ~40 years old, so it seems unlikely he is their child. (Unless Han and Leia never ended up together post-ROTJ and Han got back together with his first wife, but that seems unlikely too.)

These aren't necessarily humans (the familiar Earth variety), and the character in question could also be a grandchild, too.

If TFA takes place 35+ years after ANH, and the character in question is in late teens/early twenties, and the parental relationship in question pre-dates ANH...

(As long as we're not taking relativistic physics into account, which Star Wars seems to avoid.)

Re: Star Wars: Episode VIII (5/26/17, W/D: Rian Johnson)

Names on the shortlist for the new female character have been released. They're definitely looking for a "type," and right now it wouldn't appear to be a Solo relative. Could still be a Skywalker depending on if Luke had a kid, or possibly an Organa.
