Re: Star Wars: Episode VIII (12/15/17, W/D: Rian Johnson)

neither of those proposed titles fit the syntax of the other movies. couldv'e always been a coincidence, but I think not, and I think JJ is cognizant of that fact.

The Phantom Menace - 3 words
A New Hope - 3 words
The Force Awakens - 3 words

Attack of the Clones - 4 words
The Empire Strikes Back - 4 words

Revenge of the Sith - 4 words
Return of the Jedi - 4 words

Re: Star Wars: Episode VIII (12/15/17, W/D: Rian Johnson)

The Phantom Menace (article-adjective-noun)
A New Hope (article-adjective-noun)

Attack of the Clones (implied action)
The Empire Strikes Back (implied action)

Revenge of the Sith (___ of the ___; prepositional phrase, implies finality)
Return of the Jedi (___ of the ___; prepositional phrase, implies finality)

The Force Awakens has already broken the pattern. It implies action and is not an article-adjective-noun.

Someone on 4chan claims to have seen the call sheets for the Dubrovnik shoot and describes a bit of what is allegedly being shot. Take it with a grain of salt:

Spoiler:

Info: The scenes from Dubrovnik take place near the end of the movie. Location is called "ENCLAVE". Good guys: Luke, Rey, Finn. Bad guys: Phasma, stormtroopers. ~30 extras. The location might be somehow related to Leia, one of the interiors take place in "LEIA'S MANSION", but it might refer to an entirely different place in-universe that's filmed in Dubrovnik for convenience.

What happens: "ENCLAVE" is under occupation (my guess, streets are crawling with stormtroopers, mention of reaction shots with bystanders being beaten by stormtroopers etc). Luke&co are there to free some people from prison, not 100% sure, but it might be Luke's students or his followers from the past. After a long firefight they encounter Phasma who is now a gun for hire (I think!). She killed all the prisoners right before heroes managed to get to them. Phasma takes out one of the prisoners (a girl, one of the extras, no specific actress) right before Luke's eyes. Firefight, heroes are separated. Rey has blue lightsaber ("blue glow" lights up the place after she turns it on) and I think it's supposed to be Luke's lightsaber still. Luke "escapes on foot", he sneaks out, encounters some stormtroopers and pushes them from the ledge, doesn't take out his lightsaber. Finn and Rey steal a speeder and are chased by both Phasma and stormtroopers. Rey is hurt and drives the speeder into a building. Finn is pinned by the wreck. Rey tries to use the force to lift the wreck and free Finn, but something "blocks" her force abilities, she feels powerless and scared, so she leaves without him. Phasma captures Finn, Luke and Rey meet at the "EXTRACTION POINT" near the marina. That's all I have.
The part about Rey crashing a speeder into a building matches up with this set photo that surfaced today, so the report might have some credibility:

Also, The Art of The Force Awaken book does mention that Leia was originally going to be living in an old stone castle where Han and the kids would seek refuge, but they ended up merging the castle with Maz Kanata's bar. Maybe we'll end up seeing Leia's official residence in this movie after all. I don't care for the idea of Phasma becoming a freelance mercenary on a mission to capture Finn (OMG, she really IS the new Boba Fett!!! ).

New troopers spotted on location:

Spoiler:

The helmets have "CBPD" stenciled on them in Aurebesh, so these guys are probably playing the local police force. Their design is inspired by old Ralph McQuarrie concept art for the Imperial Guards:

Extras dressed in black:

Spoiler:

StarWarsNewsNet pointed out that the robes are similar to a costume sketch Michael Kaplan designed for Leia in Episode VIII. There's speculation this scene is possibly the funeral procession for Han Solo. The fact that everyone is wearing white gloves (even the women) suggests some kind of formal function to me.

Two people riding a space horse:

Spoiler:

Maybe Rey and Finn? Regardless, it looks pretty cool.

More McQuarrie inspired architecture:

Interesting that filming is moving along already. Haven't heard mucha bout Rogue One at all - Did they finish filming already?

Looking forward to new wild fake spoilers.

Maybe this is where Luke was guarding that ancient Sith tomb.

It started shooting seven months ago, so I'm sure they've wrapped by now. They'll probably do pick-ups/reshoots in the summer. Other than a few spy pictures of stormtroopers on a beach, there has been next to nothing leaked from that production. Granted, the level of media interest surrounding Rogue One isn't nearly as intense as it was for Episode VII.

Billie Lourd says she will be back in EP8.

I don't remember her in EP7. IMDB says she played Lt. Connix (of the Resistance?). Where was she in the movie?

She was one of the random people in the control room where everyone gathered to plan the attack.

I don't remember anything of significance. And I just searched the ebook for "Connix" and there are zero mentions.

I think she had some background chatter but nothing amazing.

Either way. She was there in a couple of scenes looking important.

what about the blue droid she's with? PZ-4CO

Connix could also be referenced as "Kaydel Ko"

It appears the black robes were not part of the costumes after all.

Spoiler:

Just covering the formal wear underneath. These folks look more like they're attending the opera than a funeral. The purple hairnets/veils on the ladies were probably just protecting the elaborate hairdos.

The monster from "The Funhouse" had sex with a Critter and this guy was the result:

Speeder goes boom:

Filming on a yacht:

Clearer shot of the space horse:

Spoiler:

No confirmation that any main cast members have been spotted on location, but that's clearly meant to be Finn. Possibly only stunt doubles were required for this shoot. Fans are speculating the girl in the front of the horse is Kelly Marie Tran's character. She seems too short to be Ridley or her stunt double. Also, a petite Asian woman with a ponytail (not Tran, but perhaps her stand-in) was spotted on set.

I thought Dubrovnik was supposed to be an isolated island where Luke was in hiding and would train Rey there?

^ Nope, that would be Skellig Michael in Ireland. They've recreated parts of that location at Pinewood because it's a pain to shoot on the island.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VIII (12/15/17, W/D: Rian Johnson)

Latino Review has a new report about some alleged scenes featuring Laura Dern's character:

Spoiler:

There’s a stage setup like the interior of a starship. I don’t know what kind of starship, but it is large enough to have a crew and lots of droids manning it. The set has a bunch of practical effect robots and “hairy” alien creatures on it, and given that The First Order seems to be keeping up with the “humans only” hiring policy of The Empire, that suggests it is not a First Order ship to me.

In one of the scenes shot in this stage, a rag-tag group of Resistance fighters have seen some battle. Cut and bruised, they and Poe Dameron are on this ship when Laura Dern, playing some sort of captain or officer. She tells the fighters that they are the last of the rebellion/resistance (I’m unclear on the exact phrasing of the line, so no capitalizing the Resistance) and that Princess Leia has been gravely injured and is receiving medical attention. Oscar Isaac and Laura Dern have an antagonistic exchange of words and Dern’s character is blunt with Poe, like she has some sort of authority over him.

Things must be tense between these two characters because another scene we’ve gotten wind of has Poe leading a group of Resistance fighters as they take over what is presumably Dern’s ship. The scene included fighters under Poe removing technicians from their computer stations and Poe pointing a blaster at Dern’s character.
