Re: Star Wars: Episode VIII (12/15/17, W/D: Rian Johnson)

I'm not sure I like that VIII is going to start at the second VII left off, instead of standard SW timing where just as much time as passed between episodes as between movie releases. I like the idea that shit keeps happening, and we can get caught up in seconds, and keeps them their own individual movies. What they're doing now is more like episodes of a TV series rather than episodes of a film series.

Since the idea of flashbacks was introduced in TFA, I could see Ep 8 starting 6 months afterwards with Rey in training, then a quick flashback showing the mountaintop meeting.

Or it could start right afterwards, but then quickly go through a few months of her training.

Yeah, time will still have passed between VII and VIII despite that teaser. If it just picked right up, the opening crawl would be fucking blank.

My prediction is that he will slowly "become" darth vader. A couple more injuries an he will fashion an identical suit and mask for himself.

Guess they have to show Luke training Rey in this one.

I expect Ridley to be in more SW movies after IX. Heck, maybe Hamill, too.

I saw Hamill's tweet and he said there was no dialogue from Luke in the 1st day of shooting.

They've got a long way to go. Probably won't finish filming until August or September at the earliest.

They should have Luke do that backwards Yoda speak just to fuck with everyone. Luke thinks that is how all Jedi speak when training potentials.

Yes it is, and if not exact, it's pretty close. And I'm not counting the prequels, which should not count towards anything.

There was not 3 years between V and VI. It was closer to a year.

What makes you think that is how Ep VIII opens?

Re: Star Wars: Episode VIII (12/15/17, W/D: Rian Johnson)

Yeah, I do wish the final TFA scene did have some brief dialogue, similar to the "I want to learn the ways of the force and become a Jedi like my father" scene from ANH.

I would expect the film to be a few months later at least (which will still be the shortest time between episodes)... maybe the initial dialogue between them won't be missed, or we'll see some flashbacks - I'm sure we won't be complaining once we've seen the movie!

That's cool they got Laura Dern. Maybe she will be Rey's mother?

Seems to be what the teaser indicates, thought it could just be alternate (and color graded) shots from TFA. Johnson and crew filmed on the island last September, well before principal photography actually began.

I love the idea of Laura Dern in a Star Wars movie. Such a great actress and not someone you'd expect to see in this franchise. As for the other new female role, I wonder how big that part will be after the rewrites. Tran looks like the type of gal you'd cast as the quirky neighbor on a sitcom (à la Charlyne Yi), so I'm curious to know the kind of character she's playing.

Benicio DelToro is like the bacon of actors; he improves everything he's in.

In the ROTJ novelization (which is "backup" canon), Han mentions something along the lines of "six months of wide awake nothin' "

That movie was terrible, but could you imagine how much worse it would've been with another actor?

If what we got there was real footage for the film... looks like Johnson changed the colors a bit. Either way... excited to see wtf this guy brings.
For continuity's sake, I'm pretty sure they should've filmed any scene like this when they did the closing of TFA. We're likely looking at footage that's a year old.

maybe not. Luke looks a bit different in there too. May just be the colors but it looks a bit different to me just by his face and hair.
