Forgive me, my search skills have been lacking lately. If this is out there, I couldn't find it.

Yesterday at the theater, the previews showed a bunch of classic movies being brought back for special showings. I know they've been doing this for a while.

Any movies that you missed in the theater yet have come to love on Home Theater, you'd like to see return?

There were two biggies for me

Jurassic Park which came back in 3D. The 3D was a little hacky but it gave me the opportunity to experience it on the big screen.

Saving Private Ryan My dad saw it in the theater and being a Korean vet, was in tears throughout the beach landing. Would love to be able to see that on the big screen as well.

I saw Raiders is coming back but I've seen that ssooooo many times, I'm not sure I'd enjoy that one. I did see that in the theater back in the day anyway. An early date with my now wife.

We have a theater here that shows JAWS every 4th of July weekend. That's always fun.

I've kind of shied away from these screenings, as everyone's gone digital these days...it used to be a chance to see the original 35mm prints - now you're not seeing anything much different from what you get on Blu-ray.

Any theater around here that plays older movies can't stay in business.

I enjoyed going to see 2001, Citizen Kane, Wild At Heart, and a handful of others on the big screen.

We have a Cinemark that has a bunch. They have specials throughout the month. I think you can see them individually or get all 6 for $30. A good deal but rarely would they have 6 I wanted to see in the theater.

Most Cinemark theaters do this (all of the Century Theaters here do). Usually twice a year they'll cycle through some "classics", airing them once on Sundays and twice on Wednesdays.

This current batch is Back to the Future, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Dirty Dancing, Saturday Night Fever, and The Godather Parts I & II.

All of these are digital projections - I'm not sure if they're standard or if they're satellite projections similar to the NCM shows.

There were 2 theaters here that used to do retro showings called Throwback Thursdays that were original 35MM prints, but not enough people showed up and they stopped about 7 years ago. I got to see Ghostbusters, Back to the Future, Mallrats, and South Park: BL&U. It was great. I remember talking to the manager of the theater after seeing Ghostbusters and he said when they were going to show Jurassic Park, they could only find a print of Jurassic Park III and didn't tell anyone. Once the movie started everyone left.

I love seeing older films in theaters but in today's day and age true retro screenings with original prints are few and far between.

When they re-released Back to the Future for its 25th anniversary in 2010 to AMC Theaters it was digital/ Although the picture was beautiful, it just "felt" different.

If you are lucky enough to live near an Alamo Drafthouse, they often screen older movies to go along with new releases. Thankfully a lot of local theaters around here do a lot of business with it as well. My top picks right now are
Braveheart- Wasnt old enough to see it in theatre the first time, but doubt this will happen as Mel Gibson isn't really loved right now.
Ghostbusters-Excited for its return this August.
Original Star Wars Trilogy-This will probably never happen, but one can only dream.

Yeah, according to one of my local theaters, it's nearly impossible to find 35mm prints any more, so that's why so many theaters just do digital screenings. Most of the major studios won't provide 35mm rentals anymore, so if you do find one, it's usually in the hands of a individual who is willing to rent it out.

They did The Goonies last year.

They tend to do another run of these retro showings in the Fall. Usually they repeat a few titles they've done before.

FYI - Cinemark Theaters is doing a double feature for the price of one admission on Thursday. See 21 Jump Street and 22 Jump Street back-to-back.

Starts at 5pm.

I saw many of the movies listed here in theaters during thier original runs (except for the 60's titles). I'd love to see them again in today's tricked out locations, instead of the crap theaters back then that werent much larger than a good home theater setup.

The Original Star Wars Trilogy sans changes.

Lucasfilm left hundreds of millions on the table by keeping it in the vaults in favor of Clone Wars nonsense.

I enjoyed the SW re-releases in 1997, but I missed out on Return of the Jedi. I'd love it if they did another re-issue, but like others have said sans changes.

If I was to make a list, though:

Ghostbusters II (second movie I ever saw in theaters at age 3, but if it's an original print it should have the original ending attached which I don't remember)

Pretty much anything . My local AMC's "classics series" though have been mostly disappointing DCPs and are almost always on their most dingy little screen in the multiplex.

Yeah, sadly, it's not up to the cinemas anymore, it's digital or bust. Studios don't want to provide prints anymore, it's becoming a seriously endangered species .

The first few films that come to mind are 2001: A Space Odyssey, Lawrence of Arabia, and Aliens. A few years ago the Charles in Baltimore was having a Samurai showcase throughout the summer. I was able to see Sword of Doom, one of my favorite Samurai flicks, on the big screen. It was awesome, one of my favorite movie-going experiences. I'd much rather shell out money to see a movie I all ready know I love on the big screen.

I had plenty of opportunities to see Josef von Sternberg's THE SCARLET EMPRESS (1934) with Marlene Dietrich on the big screen when I was a film student, but foolishly never did. When I finally did see it--on VHS!--I kicked myself for not taking advantage of the opportunity to do so when I had the chance. It's a great movie and just beautifully designed and shot. I did eventually get the Criterion DVD, so that's at least better than the VHS.
