i saw the trailer on a bigger screen with much more detail last night. if those were practical sets and they really go for the gusto, i think it has a chance at some awards.

The Little Mermaid has always been an awkward film for me. Never liked it as a kid and I don't today. The girl just wants some dick essentially and will do whatever she needs to to get that dick. Well.. maybe that's not main objective but you get my point.

And? That's a problem?

Oh wait, she's like 16...

The Little Mermaid worked for me because of the stakes (do it in 3 days or you belong to me) and the villain (Ursula really was intimidating). And the songs are iconic. And Jamaican accents are awesome. And seashell bras. Shit... She's 16... And a cartoon...

I'm really curious when we will get to see some actual footage for this.

And that's better than the Stockholm Syndrome we get in Beauty and the Beast?

Seashell bras? She's not even wearing any pants!

I'm hoping there will be a little bit of homage to Jean Cocteau's classic.

Looks like they're really sticking to the animated film, right down to the wardrobe.

I'm probably in the minority but I'm not taken by Emma in this role. Everything else looks damn good, though.

Looks alright. I think Belle and the Beast look okay but the other characters like Chip, Mrs. Potts, Cogsworth, etc. I'm having a hard time with. I get that they're inanimate objects coming to life but I'm not sure if that translates well to live action for me.

Looks like the animated film. May have to watch Christophe Gan's version instead.

Meh, not really feelin' the trailer. The look reminds me of Joel Schumacher's Phantom of the Opera. It's obvious not a single frame was actually shot outdoors. Oh, and McGregor's french accent sounds terrible. I'll still see it, though.

They're also pulling the old Hollywood tactic in marketing live-action musicals: show little to none of the characters breaking into song. Disguising that fact is the exact reason I saw audience members walk out of Sweeney Todd and Into the Woods after about five minutes. I guess that's a less likely scenario since this movie is clearly based on the well-known animated version, but still...

Yeah. I had assumed they would do it just like the musical. I think that's charming in its own right. Honestly I think Lumiere and Cogworth looked great but Chip and Mrs. Potts were pretty freaky and didn't look at all human.

Also if you didn't know it already, you'd have no idea this was a movie musical from that trailer. That was a weird decision to not even include a touch of audio from the "Gaston" scene they showed.

Don't care for The Beasts look... they softened it up too much, wish they went more 'Beastly' with it. Also looks like it's pretty much a live action version of the animated movie.... which isn't very interesting to me. They should try to change these up, I thought The Jungle Book and Maleficent found a good balance with that.

This is a direct adaptation of the Broadway musical. It was always going to look a lot like the animated movie since that's what the musical was.
