I loved Looper. I was going to wait for this to hit DVD, but you guys are making it sound pretty good.

I'm poor so I just have the DVD service with Netflix. If I'm interested in a film I'll get the DVD, and by the way the PS3 upscaler is amazing and new DVD releases always look great on my TV. If I enjoy the film I'll buy it on BluRay when I see it on sale.

I just got back from Edge of Tomorrow and it was fucking spectacular! As much as I enjoyed DOFP Edge was a much better film overall. Edge is a combination of Saving Private Ryan/Starship Troopers/Groundhog Day/The Matrix.
The main actors were great and the supporting cast was awesome, too. Good to see Kick Gurry in something. I always liked him - he was awesome in Garage Days. Anyways, I highly recommend Edge of Tomorrow.

All the praise this movie is receiving is well deserved. This movie is crazy good and Tom Cruise is as well. Fuck the haters.

Like I said, it has a solid (if shaky in terms of its "science") initial premise and great first half. Then it ditches all that for some boring bullshit with the kid and has a predictable and quite stupid ending.

And though I get it's a time travel movie, once it's so fucking boring by the halfway point, this becomes very hard to ignore. Yet for movies like The Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgment Day, I'm willing to ignore it since they were both so consistently entertaining.
This.

One of the biggest laughs Edge Of Tomorrow got at my screening was when
I also liked when Cruise is being strapped in to his mech armor and says to Kick Gurry that he's never done this before and Kick responds with,
There many comedic flourishes throughout the film that never bog it down. They're definitely needed and they work.

I liked this review snippet I read:
In many ways, this movie feels like a video game, and as anyone who has ever picked up a controller will tell you, the dude who has an infinite-lives cheat-code will eventually win the game.

I felt Looper got more entertaining as it went along, but it did wind up in a tremendously stupid place. Still not worst movie ever material.

So, it's not the worst movie you've ever seen? Yeah, I know you said one of the worst but I just have to let out a big fucking sigh when Looper is considered one of the worst movies anyone's ever seen. I expect to hear that kind of shit from someone who doesn't frequent a movie forum.

$1.8m late night showings compared to $8.1 for Fault in Our Stars.
That said, Fault was $25 per person and had a Q&A session broadcast to something like 650 theaters.

Naw. I'm fine only liking some of the things you like and disliking some of the rest.
The problem with Looper is the same problem with Alex Cross. One aspect is so good that it makes the bad parts even worse. In the case of Looper it was the promise of a cat & mouse between Willis and Gordon-Levitt with time travel thrown in. That's fun and energetic. The rest is boring and lethargic and the first half being so good actually makes the second half worse. In the case of Alex Cross, Matthew Fox is so damned good as the bad guy that any scene that doesn't feature him is even worse than how bad it already was.
This is that weird case of the good being so good that anything bad sticks out all the worse.
