I was looking forward to a "darker" Star Wars film - after all, that was the WHOLE POINT of these spin-offs when they were originally announced...they WEREN'T going to have the same tone as the "Saga" movies...this was supposed to be a war movie, the Han Solo movie was going to be a comedy/heist film, etc.

Why can't 7-9 be the fluff Disney wants, while the side movies be different?

They are fucking kidding themselves if it happens to be about pleasing people for merchandise sales. They made a shit load of money from some pretty shitty merchandise from E7 that was in stores.

This movie would make money and sell mega $in merchandise because the designs are OT.

Yeah, when I see a big budget American Godzilla movie I want it to be two hours of a woman wandering around looking for her purse with a handful of really dark shots of Godzilla fighting a lame-looking monster inserted in.

First comic book films end up being too "dark" then it sprinkles over to Rogue One?

I imagine this is the same exact "problem" in his latest. He made a low-budget type war film that happens to have the Star Wars moniker. Disney wants a huge, epic crowd-pleaser that will crossover well into foreign markets. MORE MONSTERS! MORE GODZILLA! MORE DARTH VADER! MORE FUN!!!
And I'll take Monsters over Godzilla any fucking day.

I'll wait to see the movie(s) before I start bitching about Disney ruining anything. Seems to be a lot of ill will aimed in their direction right now and most of it comes off as silly worst case scenario speculating.

BALDERDASH! HOGWASH! This, sir, is the INTERNET, where no one waits to actually see/hear/taste/smell something before criticizing it.

I was called Chicken Little in TFA thread when I voiced my concerns regarding the Disney suit/marketing issues. Well...

Take this with the usual grain of salt, but someone claiming to be a Rogue One insider is doing (did?) an AMA on reddit and his responses seem to indicate exactly what some of us feared: i.e. Disney is watering this right the fuck down.

https://www.reddit.com/r/starwarsspe...ing_they_know/

Beware, assuming this is all legit HEAVY spoilers follow.

Variety's Justin Kroll is saying the "reshoots" have nothing to do with changing Edwards movie, but rather new footage to give fans a sneak peak of Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo.

However, does that make any sense? Han Solo in Rogue One would be the same age he is in A New Hope, right?

The operative words(s) are 40% of the film will be reshot. At least from what I've been reading all day. Is that still the case? 6 weeks of additional shooting or something?

What sucks is that the original cut will probably never see the light of day.

Makes it sound like they're basically refilming the whole thing months before its release date.

Not sure I buy that. Considering all of the post-filming work that needs to be done for a film like this, you're looking at special effects, scoring, sound mixing, yaddax3, needing to be done in about four months. If they really are reshooting half of the goddamned to hing, it seems like they're starting over from scratch.

This is where I am right now. TFA is the first Star Wars movie I've really enjoyed since Empire so Disney has earned my patience at this point.

I wouldn't mind a darker tone at all. I just want it to feel like a Star Wars movie and have great characters. Hopefully Edwards and company can deliver that.

That "report" is dubious and has already been partially debunked by McQuarrie. I wouldn't trust that 40% number as anything more than a ridiculous rumor.

If that really is the reason for the reshoots (it's too dark/gritty), well, then fuck the suits at Disney. Pussies.

I would very much like to find out that 40% number is wrong. That's a substantial amount. The trailer looked really good. How could 40% of a movie need to be scrapped when its trailer looked that good?

The Phantom Menace trailers were really good IMO.

And then the movie was released.

The Phantom Menace Trailers still had "Yousa People Gonna Die?" in it, which certainly raised alarms for me.

Yeah, but if someone on this site said something similarly level-headed about Gostbusters, they'd be crucified.
