X-Men: Days of Future Past (Singer, 2014) — The Reviews Thread

Re: X-Men: Days of Future Past (Singer, 2014) — The Reviews Thread
It seems like movie studios are taking less and less risks with promotional material and the marketing. A film adaptation of Edgar Rice Burroughs' A Princess of Mars has the "Mars" part, and the most important aspect of the film, stricken from the title.
For DOFP it doesn't look that different from every other action poster that has come out recently. Orange and teal color scheme, and shoehorning in all the actors to the point that it looks like Professor X is farting explosions. Aside from that last part, it's not a bad poster, but there's no other good posters for it. Look up The Wolverine and they really got creative with the alternate posters for that film. I was hoping for something like that with DOFP.

I didn't mean to get the reviews thread that off topic about the poster, i'm just saying something like this fan made one would have been cool to see as some sort of teaser or promo. Just the imagery of familiar mutants gone, dead, or apprehended would have been appealing. I don't think there's anything deeper then that.

Just got back from this. It has been a very long time since I've read X-Men, so I won't be able to do a fanboy comparison to the original story. Sorry.
The film seems like a natural mesh between the tone of First Class and the last Singer films. There's not a whiff of Last Stand or Origins in here. The film is paced well and doesn't feel overlong even at two-plus hour running time. But the most exciting scenes happen too early in the movie and the final set pieces don't do anything new. As the movie hurries to the conclusion, some of the humor from earlier in the film gets lost, to its detriment.
I'd recommend it for fans. You may (and should) find things to nitpick, but this movie stands with the better films of the X-Men franchise.
I went with three non-fans and they were all entertained, for what its worth.

So the post credit scene is really after the whole credits, not mid-credits? Not sure if I can sit through all that.

X-men United is X2 / Singer's 2nd X-men movie, did you mean The Last Stand?

How do you explain the re-appearance of Charles Xavier after what happened to him in X-Men: The Last Stand?

Charles' consciousness wakes up in his comatose twin and says, "Hello Moira."

Looks like Quicksilver will return for the next movie: http://www.darkhorizons.com/news/322...men-apocalypse
Heard the scenes with Quicksilver in the movie were good, but still prefer the look of the character in the Avengers sequel (although even that could have been better). Lets see. Looking forward to seeing this movie this weekend non-the less.

Of course he is. As they are using the character in the Avengers: AoU then it was obvious that Fox would want to keep competing characters. Also the reason why it looks like they will be drafting in their version of the Scarlet Witch. I seem to recall seeing the photo of the cut scene with Scarlet Witch and she was just a small child. I guess they will change that in Apocalypse and have an adult version.
