re: Godzilla 2 (201?, Edwards) S: Mothra, Rodah, Ghidorah
Edwards has stated that he wants to do Destroy All Monsters, so I could see the second film with multiple kaiju and ending on a cliffhanger. He would probably save Ghidorah as the big bad for the third film if that's the direction they're going.

Edwards has talked about what he would do with a sequel, saying he would use the same kind of restraint that he did for this one.

Jesus. A free for all of Kaiju. I always had expects more of DAM. As a kid, the concept seemed much more epic than received. I LOVED the VHS cover art though.

Sounds similar to The Joker in TDK, then a big dropoff to Bane in TDKR.

With a very limited knowledge of Godzilla films and with the design of the newest MUTO, I spent half of the film thinking that the creature in this latest flick was Mothra. Damn thing looked moth-like to me.

Gareth Edwards returns to direct 'Godzilla 2' with Rodan and Mothra
By Dante D'Orazio on July 26, 2014 03:40 pm
Godzilla's return to theaters this summer was a huge success, and now Legendary Pictures has confirmed that it's making a sequel. At San Diego Comic Con, the studio announced that director Gareth Edwards is back on board to helm the sequel, and it turns out that Godzilla won't be alone in this picture.
According to the studio's Twitter account, monsters Mothra, Rodan, and King Ghidorah will join the classic beast from the deep. All three Kaiju have been featured in classic monster films from Japanese studio Toho, which made the original Godzilla film from 1954. They've also been featured in numerous other Godzilla films over the years. It's unclear if all three monsters will appear in Godzilla 2 or if they'll be spread out over a number of sequels. In one tweet, Legendary Pictures added that "several other classic monsters from Toho" will join Godzilla in "future franchise installments."
Deadline earlier reported that a sequel was in development. Naturally there are no other details at this time, including a release date, but we'll keep our eyes peeled for more.

Ho-ly SHIT!
This just made my day. So effin' stoked to see new iterations of these classic kaiju. It's like a big-budget remake of Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster!

We've seen that fight before but goddamnit if it isn't wildly exciting to see it in some form again and again.
Fuuuuuuuuck. That is a huge leap in big name Kaiju quantity.

I don't disagree with the frequent complaint of G's lack of screen time in his new U.S. film, but I'm sure Legendary has heard the fans and this one will up the ante significantly.

Happy about this announcement, but I am kind of disappointed about retaining Edwards. He has outright stated he will once again hold off showing any major monster action until the end. Then again, such is the nature of G-movies.

So, uh, they're going to wait for Edwards to be finished with his Star Wars spin-off before they begin production?
If I was Legendary and Warner, I'd want the sequel out by Summer 2017 at the absolute latest.

^ Anywhere to see that in full? If I were a kid back in the day and saw that in a magazine I would have been begging to see that movie.

Update: I don't have a solid source, but I've been reading that Legendary clarified that those kaiju are coming in future installments, not necessarily all in the second film. Ghidorah seems like he'd be saved for the third entry. I would imagine Mothra is a given for round two, maybe Rodan.

Re: Godzilla 2 (201?, Edwards) S: Mothra, Rodah, Ghidorah
Makes sense. I think it would be cool for Mothra and Rodan to appear in the second, and then at the end we see a fireball in space forming something with three heads. Kind of a wink to the G-fans. It would also kind of make sense to have a three headed foe appear in the third movie, especially if they are doing this as a trilogy.
