The Neon Demon (Nicolas Winding Refn, 2016)

GAUMONT & WILD BUNCH encounter THE NEON DEMON…

After Only God Forgives (in competition at Cannes Film Festival 2013), Gaumont and Wild Bunch team up again to co-finance and co-distribute the next film by Nicolas Winding Refn.

The Neon Demon reveals a horror tale with a young female driven cast, written by NWR and Mary Laws.

About the origin of the movie, Refn said, “One morning I woke and realized I was both surrounded and dominated by women. Strangely, a sudden urge was planted in me to make a horror film about vicious beauty. After making DRIVE and falling madly in love with the electricity of Los Angeles, I knew I had to return to tell the story of THE NEON DEMON.”

Refn’s partner, Lene Borglum (Valhalla Rising, Only God Forgives) will be producing under their joint company, Space Rocket.

Principal photography is set to begin in the first quarter of 2015 and will be filmed in Los Angeles, CA. The cast will be announced later this year. Refn’s regular collaborators, editor Matthew Newman (Bronson, Drive, Only God Forgives) and composter Cliff Martinez (Drive, Only God Forgives) will be joined by director of photography, Philippe Le Sourd (The Grand Master) on the production of NWR’s film.

Gaumont and Wild Bunch will be selling the movie at the upcoming AFM for a 2016 release.

“I’m very excited to continue my wonderful relationship with Wild Bunch and Gaumont on my next film, THE NEON DEMON. This movie is a manifestation of the strong ties between us and will lead to many more adventures,” said Nicolas Winding Refn.

I'm in there. Only God Forgives was a masterpiece and IMO the best film of 2013.

I'm in for anything Refn is involved with. Drive is still one of my favorite films of the past decade and OGF has actually gotten better on subsequent viewings. I think opinions will change to more favorable in regards to how its viewed as time passes.

I think it has to do with how people liked drive and then got OGF, which isn't anything like Drive. Fucking Love Refn.

Read his post again, dummy. He isn't saying that is the only movie of Refn's that he likes.

Solid Snake is going to make up 90% of the posts in this thread because he wants Refn's dick in his mouth. And if Gosling is cast? Oh boy...Snake is going to lose his fucking mind.

Guess there is some movies I need to see. I loved both Drive and OGF. I haven't seen any of his other films though.

Re: The Neon Demon (Nicolas Winding Refn, 2016)

Yeah I've only seen Drive and Only God Forgives from Refn. I didn't really care much for Drive at all but I really liked Only God Forgives. I might see this depending on the trailer and whatnot as I like Gosling for the most part and the idea for the film sounds like it could be pretty cool.

Re: The Neon Demon (Nicolas Winding Refn, 2016)

I see almost every horror flick that passes through theaters regardless of the director. So I'll definitely check this out, even withstanding the fact that I ranked Only God Forgives as the worst film of 2013.

I concur, I like Refn films a lot, OGF was a major misfire. But I'll definitely check this out.

Re: The Neon Demon (Nicolas Winding Refn, 2016)

Elle Fanning is in negotiations to star in “Drive” director Nicolas Winding Refn’s next film “The Neon Demon,” TheWrap has learned.

Written by Refn and newcomer Mary Laws, “Neon Demon” is a female-driven horror film that the director’s longtime producing partner Lene Borglum will produce via their Space Rocket banner.

Fanning will play an aspiring model who is caught in a world of beauty and demise.

“Elle Fanning is a super cool wonder woman and I look forward to going on a terrifying trip with her into ‘The Neon Demon,’” said Refn, the acclaimed director of the “Pusher” trilogy.

French titans Gaumont and Wild Bunch are co-financing the film, which will start production in March in Los Angeles. The two companies began selling the project at AFM last fall.

Refn is poised to be the latest high-profile director Fanning has worked with, following Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu (“Babel”), David Fincher (“The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”), Sofia Coppola (“Somewhere”), Francis Ford Coppola (“Twixt”), J.J. Abrams (“Super 8”) and Cameron Crowe (“We Bought a Zoo”).

Fanning recently wrapped Jay Roach’s “Trumbo” with Bryan Cranston and the indie “Three Generations” with Naomi Watts. She’s also set to co-star in Ben Affleck’s “Live By Night.”

Fanning is represented by WME, Echo Lake Entertainment and attorney Steve Warren.

Re: The Neon Demon (Nicolas Winding Refn, 2016)

BERLIN– Keanu Reeves and Christina Hendricks have joined the cast of Nicolas Winding Refn’s “The Neon Demon,” the subversive female-driven horror tale that marks Danish helmer’s follow-up to “Only God Forgives.”

Sold and financed by Gaumont and Wild Bunch, “The Neon Demon” stars Elle Fanning (“Super 8″).

Abbey Lee (“Drive”), Jena Malone (“The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1″), and Bella Heathcote (“Beneath Hill 60″) round out the eclectic cast of up-and-coming actresses.

Refn’s partner, Lene Borglum (“Valhalla Rising,” “Only God Forgives”), is producing via their company Space Rocket.

The key crew of “The Neon Demon” comprises Refn‘s regular collaborators: editor Matthew Newman and composter Cliff Martinez. They will be joined by d.p. Philippe Le Sourd (“The Grand Master”).

Gaumont and Wild Bunch are shopping the project at the EFM and have started discussions with U.S. buyers.

The two Paris-based companies teamed on Refn’s last film, “Only God Forgives,” which world premiered in competition at Cannes.

Production is slated to begin March 30.

The main character has had a grand total of, what, 15 lines of dialogue in the last 3 Refn movies combined? I mean that includes Valhalla Rising where the guy was actually a mute.

I liked him in John Wick so I'm just giving him benefit of the doubt.

I think Keanu Reeves could be pretty interesting in a Refn movie, which are usually pretty low on dialogue.

Excited about Fanning and Hendricks (isn't this the second time they've worked together?), not so much about Reeves. However, if he plays an emotionless character, it might work.
