Irrational Man (2015, Woody Allen) S: Joaquin Phoenix, Emma Stone, Parker Posey
Joaquin Phoenix has finalized a deal to star in the next film directed by Woody Allen, which I’m hearing is going to begin shooting in July. As per usual there’s not much known Allen’s projects before they really get going, but his past few have included gangbusters Midnight In Paris and Blue Jasmine, the latter landing its star Cate Blanchett the Best Actress Oscar this year. The writer-director’s next pic in his seemingly endless pipeline is romantic comedy Magic In The Moonlight, about an Englishman brought in to help unmask a possible swindle in the south of France in the 1920s against a backdrop of wealthy mansions, the Côte d’Azur, jazz joints and fashionable spots for the wealthy of the Jazz Age.
Phoenix is coming off Spike Jonze’s Oscar-nommed Her, which earned the actor a Golden Globe nom, and he just finished Inherent Vice for Paul Thomas Anderson. He his repped by WME and attorney David Weber.

Emma Stone and Joaquin Phoenix are set to star in Woody Allen’s next pic.
The film is currently untitled, but Allen is expected to write, produce and direct like he has with so many of his other projects.
Plot details are unknown, but sources say the film would likely shoot this July. The film is also without a distributor, but Sony Pictures Classics is a front-runner, as it has distributed this last handful of Allen films.
The cast is slowly starting to come together and expect it to be another grand ensemble. While this will be the first time Allen will have worked with Phoenix, he has been known to become attached to certain stars like Scarlett Johansson and Dianne Wiest. He looks to be doing the same here with Stone, whom he worked with on the upcoming “Magic in the Moonlight.”
Stone is coming off a big weekend at the box office, where her film “The Amazing Spider-Man 2″ grossed $91.6 million at the domestic box-office. She is repped by WME and Anonymous Content.
Allen’s last film, “Blue Jasmine,” landed Cate Blanchett a best actress Oscar and Sally Hawkins a supporting actress nomination.

Here is a very rare long interview with Woody Allen. It's from Josh Horowitz' podcast (MTV).
It's 35 minutes long. Phoenix is only briefly mentioned in it, but there are some interesting bits about why Woody hasn't worked with the likes of Nicholson, DeNiro, Pacino etc.

(It might makes his movies a little more entertaining, though.)

There are next to no details, but Sony Pictures Classics announced today that they have acquired all North American rights to Woody Allen’s next movie. presently titled "Irrational Man." The film's cast includes Jamie Blackley, Joaquin Phoenix, Parker Posey and Emma Stone.
"Sony Classics and I have a good working relationship. I like the way they handle my movies…very special, very classy and I always hope my films live up to their expectations,” Allen said. Sony Pictures Classics added "Woody Allen's new movie IRRATIONAL MAN, his latest annual gift to moviegoers everywhere, is as fresh and winning as ever."
There have been some rumor afoot that the movie is about a University professor (Phoenix), his student (Stone) and their entanglement that may turn deadly (there's some reported details here if you'd like to take a look). No release date yet either, but SPC prefers to put out Allen's movies in the spring or summer generally. "Irrational Man" marks the eighth collaboration with the filmmaker and Sony Classics. Allen's next move? Making a TV series for Amazon.

As long as Woody himself doesn't appear in it, I might give this a watch when it comes out on disc.
