That's the same trailer they played in front of Star Trek. I'm guessing they've written the film as a loss already, because I have not seen any marketing for it since the first trailer that I actually liked.
I'll still see it at the show, though.

They're all over the map with how to promote this... the first trailer was a pretty middle of the road action movie.. looked decent. Than they want all in for the faith-based crowd (CCM pop song, etc), and now this is the 'bad ass movie!' one. Being dumped in late August... not looking good.

MGM and Paramount still have three weeks to make their final marketing push, including targeting faith-based moviegoers.
Another big-budget 2016 summer event film could be in trouble at the U.S. box office.
Early tracking suggests Ben-Hur will open in the $14 million to $15 million range over the Aug. 19-21 weekend, a sobering start for the faith-centric ancient epic, which reportedly cost just under $100 million to produce.
However, MGM and Paramount still have three weeks to make their final marketing push, including targeting faith-based moviegoers. Two of the film's executive producers are Mark Burnett and Roma Downey, who are active Christians and the producing team behind the hit movie Son of God and the miniseries The Bible.
Russian director Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted) helmed Ben-Hur. The movie is a reimagining of Lew Wallace's 1880 novel Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ, not a remake of the classic 1959 film starring Charlton Heston. (Burnett has billed the movie as a "story of forgiveness with an underlying story of Jesus.")
The plot follows a disgraced nobleman (Jack Huston) who becomes a Roman slave after he's betrayed by his adoptive brother. Years later, he challenges his accuser to a great chariot race but is changed forever after a series of meetings with Jesus of Nazareth.
Morgan Freeman, Toby Kebbell, Nazanin Boniadi and Rodrigo Santoro star opposite Huston.
It's hardly the first time Wallace's ancient epic has been adapted for the big screen. There were two silent films, one in 1907 and the other in 1925. The 1959 film won 11 Oscars for MGM (a record at the time), including best picture.
MGM partnered with Paramount on the latest movie, which was originally set to open Feb. 26, 2016. It was pushed to Aug. 12, and then to Aug. 19. Ben-Hur will also make a major push overseas.

I was never a fan of the 1959 version, even though the restored blu-ray looks amazing. As others have mentioned I, too, have zero interest.

Scott Mendelson liked it enough.

Ben-Hur is just good enough. The film presents itself as a handsomely staged and relatively well-acted adaptation of Lew Wallace’s 1880 novel Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ. In some ways, Keith R. Clarke and John Ridley’s screen adaptation actually improves on the original text (and the 1959 remake) in terms of creating an actual conflict which turns brother against brother. Director Timur Bekmambetov’s adventure drama sells its core themes in a way that will please the overtly devout and general audiences just looking for a polished spectacle.

I've seen a few reviews that say it's pretty entertaining. The biggest faults being it isn't a "prestige" picture and Huston is no Heston.

Re: Ben-Hur (Bekmambetov, 2016) S: Jack Huston, Morgan Freeman
I was expecting this to suck but was fairly entertained. Toby Kebbell is the weak link in a pretty decent cast, Jack Huston was quite good and even Morgan Freeman on autopilot is a welcome addition to any movie. A bit all over the place at spots, the action was fine and the ship and chariot sequences are worth the price of admission, even if Bekmambatov loves his quick cuts and barely sells the geography of what is happening. It is not too preachy (that ending tho) but there are quite a few eye roll inducing moments and doesn't meet the same heights as the Heston version. Not a must see or great by any stretch but the 2 hours zoomed by and I wasn't mad that I paid to see it.

Yea. The original is great. The scenes in the ship are worth sitting and watching the whole thing.
