Just finished watching this and yeah, Winter Soldier is Top-10 of the year worthy and it's also better than GOTG. Hell, it's Top-3 in terms of the best MCU ones, too.
I will also say that GOTG is just one spot behind Winter Soldier in terms of their score, so don't assume I'm hating on GOTG.

Ha!
I rank GOTG #6 of the year, with Winter Soldier taking the #5 spot. So far. STill many months left in 2014.

I finally got a chance to watch this one today. Absolutely loved it. This is tops in the MCU for me. I'm a huge fan of all the films that influenced the Russo bros., especially '70s spy thrillers. This is one of the best contemporary examples of a spy thriller that harkens back to those old pictures.
The pacing was tight, with zero lag.
I hope Marvel can continue to operate at this level.

It didn't remind me of 70s thrillers so much as it did those real sleek Tom Clancy techno-thrillers. Given that the storyline is basically about a character going a bit more low-tech, I think their TV roots worked to give it a more loose feel. Betting that the Redbox version won't have the damn extras, but I'll be giving it a rent, curious how it'll hold up on second viewing.

This is what the scene with Hawkeye was supposed to be:
http://screenrant.com/hawkeye-captai...ole-explained/
Joe Russo: What it was going to be, we were trying to complicate the relationship between Cap and his S.H.I.E.L.D agent friends. If Hawkeye got a call from S.H.I.E.L.D saying Captain America is a fugitive, would he listen to that call or not listen to that call? That sequence actually was heartbreaking for us to cut it. I think it ultimately might have been a conflict with Renner’s schedule. But there was a great sequence where Hawkeye was chasing Cap through Washington D.C. there was an awesome sequence where they confronted each other in a ravine on the outskirts of D.C. and Hawkeye was shooting a series of arrows closing in on Cap, Cap closing in on him. And then Cap took him down and he realized for the first time that Hawkeye was trying to trick S.H.I.E.L.D, where he whispered something into Cap’s ear that Cap had a tracker on his suit and to punch Hawkeye to make it look real, because there was a Quinjet hovering above where they were watching the feedback back at S.H.I.E.L.D.
So it was a cool sequence. But look, there’s a million iterations of films, and especially when dealing with Marvel movies where characters can come in or come out during the creative process. And you keep working and working like a Rubik’s Cube till you find the right configuration where everything lines up. So even though we lost that sequence, I think we may have streamlined the movie and made it a little bit more propulsive.

Been catching up on Marvel films to see Civil War. I agree with the majority and think this film is terrific! So far it's the best Marvel film I've seen, which is funny considering how unimpressed I was by The First Avenger. I'm unfamiliar with any comics - I had little idea that this would be a full-blown political/espionage thriller.
I enjoyed The Avengers, too, although not quite as much as this film. What was I thinking missing out on these movies?

The Winter Soldier is a great comic book superhero movie because it isn't just that. It is that political/espionage thriller, too.
From a story and acting standpoint this is definitely my favorite Superhero movie, but from a character standpoint The Avengers is probably my favorite - but they're both great, just in different ways.

and directing. just about every action piece was intense yet easy to follow. something like the assault on Fury's SUV or the elevator scene could have easily been a jumbled mess in those tight quarters, but goddamn they are some of the most memorable in all the MCU.

I really hated the winter soldier's hair in this movie. Was that true to the comic book? YUCK

Why did Fury say, the last time I trusted someone, I lost an eye. when we saw it was by that furmanese whatever cat in Captain Marvel. Is this one of those irregularities in continuity were supposed to overlook?
