Yeah, but since we went over a decade not knowing for sure if they'd ever do a sequel I'm OK with that.

Now we not only know that it's coming, but exactly when it's coming!

BRING IT ON!!!

(The Incredibles is one of my all time favorite movies, regardless of genre.)

Fourteen years after the original hit theaters, director Brad Bird revealed new details of Incredibles 2, the long-awaited sequel to the 2004 film that introduced the super family made up of husband and wife Mr. Incredible (Craig T. Nelson) and Elastigirl (Holly Hunter) and their children Violet (Sarah Vowell), Dashiell (Spencer Fox) and baby Jack Jack.

Bird revealed the that Elastigirl, not Mr. Incredible, will be the star of this film, as she will be off adventuring and her husband will be home with the baby. And this time around, Huck Milner will be voicing Dash. Samuel L. Jackson is back as Frozone.

Bird also showed off the first footage to the eager crowd. The first clip (a work in progress), showed Jack Jack as he wanders outdoors after his dad falls asleep. There, he shows off his new new-found superpowers as he gets into a confrontation with a raccoon. His trick? He can multiply.

"It's fundamentally a story about family," Bird said, adding the latest technology is allowing them to enhance the animation. "The technology has gotten so much better; We can get them close to what we wanted to do in the [original]. It’s like driving a better car."

He also showed new animation tests of the family. Concept art also showed that the Incredibles have a new house — and it's a super lair. The downside? It's "made up of sharp corners, which is not ideal for a baby." Luckily, Jack Jack is pretty tough.

Nicole Paradis Grindle and John Walker are producing Incredibles 2, which is set for June 15, 2018.

All those kids that liked the first one may be adults by the time this one comes out. Will they care?

They probably dont matter as much as current kids. My 3 and 5 year old kids regularly ask to watch Mr. Incredible.

I'm looking forward to this and the first came out when I was in college. Jack Jack would almost be old enough to drive now.

Funny that you mention it since this is presumably related to why they had to replace the actor who does the voice of Dash. Judging from the trailer, not much time has passed since the last one ended. Sarah Vowell was already in her 30s when she did the voice of Violet, but the kid who did Dash's voice was 10-11, and is now in his mid-20s. I think it is safe to say that his voice has changed substantially while Vowell's voice probably has not.

Sadly, Elizabeth Pea (Mirage) will not be back either.

Didn't Mr. Incredible already know the baby has powers?

Re: Disney/Pixar's Incredibles 2 (6/15/18, D: Brad Bird)

They all thought he was normal. The only people who saw Jack Jack's powers were Kari, the babysitter, and she got mindwiped in a Blu-ray extra cartoon and Syndrome, and he... well, he also won't be back for the sequel.

The Incredibles is easily one of my top ten movies. I'll always take more.

Jack Jack used his powers while fighting with Syndrome in the air while the family was on the ground below. It's unclear how much the family could see, but I always assumed they could tell Jack Jack was doing SOMETHING up there to keep Syndrome from going straight to his plane.

I'll have to watch it again, but I think the family must have seen something.

Here's the ending sequence:

Teasers also don't necessarily translate to scenes in the movie, so Mr. Incredible's reaction here may not actually matter?

Won't make a bit of difference. The Incredibles wasn't a "kid's" movie. Far and away, the vast majority of the Incredibles original audience were people who "got" the references, in-jokes, etc., and who have been waiting for this since the the Incredibles credits stopped.

Adults.

My son wasn't even born when it came out, but has seen it multiple times on DVD. He's nine now and is really excited for the sequel. My point is that it really doesn't matter WHEN a movie was originally released. It can stay alive on DVD and continue to build an audience who would welcome a sequel. This is especially true of animated movies.

Exactly. The “vast majority” of the audience were kids. But animated features are more evergreen than any other kind of film. My daughters weren’t born when the original came out, but they’ve seen the film.

Yeah, Pixar and Disney are all ages movies anyway.

Disney/Pixar classics are eternal. Parents who loved them as kids force them on their own kids, and thus the cycle goes on.

Yeah, rewatching that clip, it's understandable that the family still wouldn't know Jack Jack has powers. Elasti-Girl's line, "What's happening, Bob?!" kinda underscores the idea that they can't see what's happening that far up in the air.

This sequence also underscores one other uncomfortable fact: if it wasn't for Violet, Bob would've indirectly incinerated/crushed the entire family.
