Ok, so he misspelled the name of the actor whom which this entire thread is based, but at least the OP liked him in that one movie that he never saw.

He's really good as Michelango in The Agony & The Ecstasy. In fact, far better than his co-lead in it, Rex Harrison.

re: Hey there no Charleston Huston threads around here

Ben-Hur tops them all, IMO. Takes full advantage of his "epic" qualities. He could be a bit stiff and imperious, but in the right role, those qualities are essential (the "stiffness" could translate into righteous indignation...and nobody did righteous indignation like Charlton. It's what made the "Pry this gun from my cold, dead hands" speech so effective).

Too good performances are in "The Big Country" (supporting player) and the rarely-seen "The Warlord" (only available here as an import, I believe). you have to get past Charlton's period-authentic bowl cut and miscast Richard Boone's grunting, but it's a good medieval flick.

The "Damn dirty ape" line has to be one of the most oft-quoted and broadly-applied lines in cinema history. Delivered with the proper righteous indignation.

[Edit: Meant to say "Two good performances"...not "Too good." ]

Huston was in some fantastic movies, but I never really thought he was a great actor. Ben-Hur is probably the one where I feel it all comes together the best.

Did a mod change the thread title, or am I that blind? I know the first name was always mispelled but I could've sworn Heston was orginally spelled correctly.

I am thankful for Charleston Heston for explaining movie ratings for me during his hectic tennis tour.

Re: Hey there no Charleston Huston threads around here

Loved him in Ben Hur, my favorite film; so that perhaps clouds my judgement of his work in any other role.

Charlton Heston was very good in the underrated film, Gideon. It also features a solid performance by Christopher Lambert in the titular role.

I thought his best performance was making Michael Moore think he was batshit crazy in BOWLING FOR COLUMBINE.

Charlton Heston - Either Ben Hur or The Agony and the Ecstasy. I do love his part in True Lies. Always thought he'd make a great Nick Fury. The Charleston guy in the header, not a clue.
