Here's an article on Byrne taking comic roles in general: Rose Byrne: Raunch-com's Secret Weapon
Good to know Stoller's initial response to her auditioning for Get Him to the Greek was the same reaction I had when I saw her in it. Glad Bobby Cannavale got something out of being the indie underdog for the last 15 years, lucky man.

Same here. I like her in pretty much every role she's had.

This falls more into spy movie with idiots like Get Smart. Scary Movies tend to be broad and spoof specific things from other movies and little more (well maybe not the first Scary Movie which at least tried)

Melissa McCarthy’s ‘Spy’ Dominating Early Box Office
Melissa McCarthy is back on top at the box office: 20th Century Fox’s new comedy “Spy” is headed for a $35 million opening weekend at 3,711 locations, according to early estimates.
Friday forecasts pegged “Spy” at $12 million for its first day, in line with recent forecasts. Reviews have been stellar with a 94% “fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
“Spy” marks the third time that Paul Feig has directed McCarthy, following 2011’s “Bridesmaids” and 2013’s “The Heat.” The comedy looks likely to deliver profits for the studio, given McCarthy’s demonstrated drawing power. Chernin Entertainment produced “Spy,” which also stars Rose Byrne, Jude Law and Jason Statham, for $65 million.

Looks like they might adjust it down a little on Friday, because reports are saying Insidious 3 won that day. But this will still win the weekend.

Saw this yesterday. It was funny, and everyone brings that laughs , not just McCarthy. Rose Byrne wears quite a few sexy outfits as well...

Not a bad film. I liked Bridesmaids more, though. I think I Rose Byrne stole the movie. She's really good in this. Jude Law played a pretty good "Bond" and the cameo by Melissa's real- life hubby was very short but amusing. There were more violent moments than I expected. One gross-out scene made me glad it wasn't in 3D.
Since there is no poll, I would give it 3.5 stars/5 stars.

I'm on vacation overseas in Thailand and saw this a few days ago. Freaking hilarious. Not a big McCarthy fan either, but she was really great in this. She was funny, sold the action sequences well, and came across as sweet as well. Also loved Jude Law as the wanna be James Bond and Rose Byrne as the villainess. Jason Statham was freaking awesome as the asshole agent. Surprised that he could do comedy this well.
I know FOX will be tempted to do a sequel based on its solid returns, but this is going to be a hard one to pull off again.

Funny movie. Story was a mess but that doesnt even matter. Statham was hilarious. McCarthy was McCarthy. If you liked her "You look like a [Expletive][Expletive][Expletive].." schtick in The Heat you'll like it here. I'm actually kinda interested at the thought of a far more vulgar, crude and violent Ghostbusters. I know she gets a LOT of hate but Miranda Hart stole more than a few of her scenes imo. Byrne was okay. That woman needs to take a cue from McCarthy and eat more. The 50 Cent gags were lame. What is this, 2004?
Worth a watch.

Wasn't impressed and neither was my theater. There was barely any laughs. It does have some funny moments but I could honestly not even tell you what they were an hour after watching it. Statham was entertaining though, and the action sequences were directed pretty well. Other than that though a pretty lousy spy comedy. 2/5

I saw this yesterday. I liked it mostly cuz Law, Bryne, and Statham were fucking killing it. McCarthy was tolerable. It got old quick w/ her going all violent and yelling crazy shit sometimes. I'll never see it again but I enjoyed it.
Also... it was funny seeing how much padding they to put on the stuntperson to get McCarthy's size for the stunts. IMMEDIATELY took me out of it. It's so weird to see that.
What was up w/ Bryne? She looked skinnier than usual. She still looked good but not as defined as before.

Saw this today with a nearly full theater (guess a stormy, rainy Saturday will do that). Very funny - and got the whole crowd laughing regularly - lots of older folks too.
A little more vulgar than I was expecting in some portions (camera gags), but most of the visual gags worked really well - and frankly the Chev Chelios bits were awesome.
Definitely worth a matinee.
And for some reason I kept thinking Serafinowicz was Hank Azaria the entire flick. Some great roles by Michael McDonald and Miranda Hart too.

Peter Serafinowicz is the only funny aspect of the movie.

Saw it tonight with my wife. It was a packed theater, which was odd for a movie that has been out weeks. Loved every minute of it, as I expected. Even though McCarthy plays similar characters in every movie, I will continue to see her movies. It just entertains the shit out of me.
Jason Statham was definitely one of the highlights of the movie. His story about poison ring had me laughing out loud so much.

Saw the Unrated cut of this last night; Statham is by far the highlight of the film, playing a very self-aware parody of his own action hero persona (although anyone familiar with him from his Guy Ritchie days, knows he's a great comedic actor already). Rose Byrne is definitely the underrated part of the film, playing a really deadpan role.
