I like to think that Space Jam already had a sequel: Zombieland. Bill Murray played the same character in both movies.

Yes, I don't mean his athletic ability but if he has the star power like Jordan did. Plus to my admittedly uneducated eyes I don't think LeBron is as "family friendly" as Jordan either.

Didn't realize how many people hated LeBron James.
I mean Geez, would you all rather have Kevin Durant or Carmelo?
I realize a lot of the posters in Movie Talk probably aren't NBA fans, but LeBron is 2-time NBA champion and probably the biggest star of the NBA right now.

Kobe avoids rape allegations, infidelity and negative publicity by shooting heroin and watching Looney Toons. The hallucinations start innocently. But the trip goes bad and he's tasked with finding his way back - by winning a Looney Toons basketball tournament.

I know he's hated in Cleveland and probably most East coast NBA cities outside of Miami.
Jordan wasn't Mr. Perfect. It was revealed that he was a constant philanderer and had a gambling problem.

I don't hate the guy personally. I did dislike the drama he created with his move to Miami. But, he's probably the most talented all around player in the NBA right now. With Kobe being on the downside of his career, he's probably the biggest star in the NBA right now & still in this prime. Plus, he's never had any off court problems from what I recall.

Are basketball skills really relevant in an animated movie? Is that really the argument?
Exactly. He comes across as a complete asshole.
Kobe seems like a better choice.

I agree. Watching Kobe in interviews and late night shows you can see he has a fun off the court personality. I think that works better when it comes to making movies.
Overall I just don't think the NBA personalities are as good as they were in the 90's. So even though I think Kobe is a better choice, I don't think he'd be as good as Jordan was.
They're better off changing sports and going for baseball or football. Derek Jeter is a big name who will be out of a job soon. Peyton Manning would be good as well.

I don't think any basketball player is a good choice right now. I don't like Lebron, but honestly he's the only one right now that could do something like this. Even as a huge Lakers fan, Kobe's past issues make him a poor choice, to be honest.

Jordan was widely known among tons of people who didn't give a shit about basketball. And possibly well-liked among them also. To be honest, I don't remember, but I do remember taking my daughter and her friends to see SPACE JAM. And it was a packed house. Whether it was Jordan or the Looney Tunes stars or a combination of both, SPACE JAM was a hit. Nobody mentioned in this thread as a replacement or possible replacement for Jordan in SPACE JAM 2 has anywhere near that cachet.

James would work as the master villain, though no way he does that to his image.
Jordan was well liked, but that was in an age where there wasn't constant media pressure that would reveal his gambling issues and insane competitiveness. Now everyone either has some level of backlash or is kinda bland. Honestly I'd think Blake Griffin would do well in a comedy, but he's got a legion of haters as well.
